Didn't they end up in court over the 'legendary R&R'er' who was refused R&R on some booze and ended up paying him £5,000 compo plus, I expect, all the court costs?I spelt my username wrongly on purpose, by the way!0

Clasics wrote:I think they would have a real problem with pulling the policy as there are many people who don't just do this R&R for the free products but also because they resent tesco's power in the market and what they see as illegal mispricing. When you consider that potentially Tesco could be fined up to £2,000 for EACH misprice (by this I mean each leg of lamb or CD or DVd whatever that is mispriced!) then I'm sure there would be a significant number of people only too willing to 'dob' them to TS on a regular basis. 2 months ago (when I started this hobby!) I wouldn't have dreamt of doing this sort of thing, now I would
Tesco wouldn't have a problem revoking the policy. The vast majority of customers wouldn't even bat an eyelid, and if it did get public Tesco would only have to release a press statement "Due to abuse the policy has ben stopped, rest assured if you are overcharged we will still honour the lower price etc.." On this board there is a concentration of people who highlight misprices and don't like Tesco for whatever reason. But outside of that there are millions who shop there and couldn't care less, because they can go and get everything they want fairly cheaply. Sad fact I agree.
Remember that other retailers have misprices too, but only Tesco offer this policy. Tesco's misprices are only such a prominent topic because of R+R.
If people on here really did " resent tesco's power in the market and what they see as illegal mispricing" then they would contact the relevant authroties with documented evidence of Tesco's flawed pricing procedures. That is what would hurt the company.
In reality it is more about getting something for free not about resentment of Tesco's market place and policies.0 -

Sounds like Tesco treated you like a shop lifter so think you comitted a criminal offence.
You did admit trying it on twice in 2 different stores which shows premeditation, and the fact you actually did do it, those two elements create an offence/ criminal act, (at least in Mr T's eyes), so its not that surprising they got a bit heavy with you.
They are trying to protect themselves, and by the look of it, they chose you to make an example out of.
Not siding with them, if they over charge then it is their fault, not yours.
Doesn't mean two wrongs make a right.
Let's get this into perspective shall we?
I admit to CS staff sometimes that I R&R on purpose, they cannot do anything about me doing it as it is not a crime, apart from banning me and this has not yet happened. I R&R on purpose, this does NOT create an offence / criminal act. If Ii plan to come over and murder you, that would be premaditated murder. Premeditated R&Ring is NOT a crime in Mr. T's eyes or other.
If you were talking about R&Ring being immoral, then I wouldn't have a leg to stand on. But then again, some peoples morals are different than others, usually due to the way one has been brought up.

As I have said before some of us do, speak for yourself not others please.Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0 -
As we all feel miffed that not only do the stores make money out of us with overcharges, but also that WE PAY Council Tax for the Trading Standards to do.........WHAT!!
HOW ABOUT DOING THIS Write to your local Council Chief Executive and ask for (under the freedom of information act) the Audit of their TS dept. Specifically how many complaints v how many convictions. How much time checking Village stores v time checking Tescos.
On this last point can anyone rmind me the %age spent on grocerys at Tesco?0 -

Sorry for generalising. Fair play to you if you do inform the authorities.mcdonag wrote:I admit to CS staff sometimes that I R&R on purpose, they cannot do anything about me doing it as it is not a crime, apart from banning me and this has not yet happened. Would they be able to refuse R+R due to abuse of the policy if you admit, or if they know you are deliberately doing so?0 -
Wow - what a nightmare for you gravy173 - my sympathies - take a deep breath and some perspective - then get back out there - a little wiser I hope
As veteran readers of this thread will know, my worst experience (intimidation-wise) was being 'surrounded' by a group of CS staff and managers - but to actually be escorted into a room with 'the management' is extreme to say the least.
The Dude always says - "each to their own" - so lets forget the morals of R&R for a moment - in any case anyone who knowingly exploits an R&R has little moral ground to stand on - and that includes His Dudeness!
I previously published some hints on the best way to go about dealing with unplesant CS staff (big hello to the nice CS staff though! :T )
I recommend that - as a last resort - you use a legal arguement to get your R&R - but it must be a last resort as you WILL get noticed and you WILL limit your windows for R&R with that particular store - this approach may have helped in gravy173's situation.
Some Dudes will recall the 'XBOX Games Under £30' fiasco some time ago - in many ways exactly like the recent console-grabbing polava - I had to use the legal arguement back then to get the R&R.
It goes like this (I think Ben?) - under the Sales of Goods Act 1987 (?) a merchant is required to have their goods clearly labeled with a description and price - this (item) is not clearly labeled and you are in breach of a statuatory Act of Parliament - then you ask CS to show you the clear labelling of the mis-priced item - they can't - therefore your local Trading Standards office would love to know about this (actually they won't) as the store is breaking the law - now give me my darn R&R you fiend.
(Of course there are variations of the above - and you can be as nice or nasty as you see fit - remember this is a last resort - and it helps if you talk as though you know what you are on about!)
And yes - Tesco can ban you - but if they start making allegations over your use of R&R (even if these are true) or trying to put you in room 101 then they are breaking numerous UK and European pieces of legislation.
If you've got this far - good for you & HTH.

Lucky you mcdonag.
They can challenge you - words to the effect of "not shopping according to the spirit of the Price Promise".
I know that they haven't got a legal leg to stand on - and I'm all in favour of R&Ring - but I can see their point!
