Very much so. Unfortunately you've lost credibility by providing a false name and address so that makes it even.
    Can I help?

I know i was pushing my luck but there wouldnt have been any issue if the misprices werent there in the first place. Have i been dealt harshly here?

    Understatement of the year mate.

I would have gone bloody loopy!!! I would have demanded that the police be called and got them charged for false imprisonment. I know, before loads of threads are posted. that it is probably legally incorrect, but I would have genuinly called their bluff and demanded via HO a full apology. I would talk to a solicitor if I were you and take this a lot further.

Some people are reporting bullyboy tactics by Tesco management more & more now and this has to be stopped.

I would also have asked how they knew that you had been in the previous store as well as this may constitute an invasion of personal privacy or information.

They have no right to treat you in this manner. It is Tesco that is being unlawful NOT you.

You are merely taking advantage of their own policy which is not breaking the law.

You are under no legal obligation to provide your name and address. You are entitled to give them a load of old rubbish if that is what you want.

I always provide the correct one if asked, I havn't got anything to hide.

However, if asked, you could always say that you put a false one in as you didn't want to get bombarded with spam mail as is your right.

They cannot pass your picture around the stores either unless you are a know criminal and as you have not broken any laws, they have broken a law by doing so, if that is what they did.

The manager might just have passed your description by phone to his mate in the other store.

How terrible. Tesco's should either get rid of the R=R policy or honour it as the poster says without it affecting your rights

My tip on the 'stores ringing a neighbouring store to describe you' problem is simple - take a different coloured top with you in the car and change before you go in the 2nd store. A baseball cap is also a good idea. Am I joking here? I'll leave you to ponder that one....

When they asked you to "come with them" I would have said NO!! What can they do, they have no legal right to detain you as you have done nothing wrong!

Agree with mcdonag here, I would DEFINITELY have insisted on them calling the police. And also requested they let me put in a call to Trading Standards. There was only ONE entity breaking the law here - the store!
