Money Moral Dilemma: Should we stop splitting the bill?

I'm failing to see the bit where this is a dilemma!!!
They have to start paying more fairly.
Next time you go out forget to get cash, ask the waitress if you can pay for the 2 mains and your drinks on your card. They'll be left with the rest and realise how much more expensive it is when you don't subsidise!!! Hopefully they will pay their fair share in future, but if they don't them cease the meals!Bump due 22nd September0 -
Next time just ask the waiter / ess for two bill at time of ordering say my wife and I will have xxxxx on one bill, please do a separate bill for our friends, end off...................!Breast Cancer Now 100 miles October 2022 100 / 100miles

Spot on. Ditch the wasters. We have several couples we go out with and none of them would pull this cheap trick to fill not only their bellies but also their freezer.
If you can't face dropping them completely the "We're a bit short this week/month, Ok if we pay our own bills" should either stop them over ordering when they realise the greedy slobs side of the bill isn't being covered or, if they have truely not been aware, perhaps make them think twice before doing it again.0 -
I`d be more than happy to ask for a separate bill. Why should i pay for something that i haven`t eaten?? I may as well just hand them a tenner & say treat yourself!!AT LBM 7/1/08 (£24,018.09)- 25/09/11 (£13,032.25) - 26.04.15 - £6,429.70

This sounds like a very good way to put it. So that you're thinking about how they might feel about it rather than just yourself, it might go down better. Of course it could backfire with "well we don't mind!" but I think that'd be a bit cheeky even for them :rotfl:0 -
Yep. !!!!!!!!!!s. They know what they're doing and are extracting the Michael. Do not put up with it. They are really not your friends. I stopped doing 'Yorkshires' (where you all throw £20 or so in) years ago as there is always at least one who will abuse it. I don't drink much. Now when I offer to buy someone a drink and they say 'A double xxx' I look them straight in the eye and tell them I don't buy doubles. I wouldn't say to them '2 pints of best bitter please'. Oh what lovely people....0

once i have been "ripped off" over having to pay more than my fair share, then i dont ever get in that situation again. i dont give anyone the chance of doing this to me a second time. I would rather stay in than have to pay more than I should. The other people know exactly what they are doing. I dont see why i should work hard than to have to pay for my friends !!!Just about to give up!0

Years ago when waiters scribbled hieroglyphic orders on bits of paper I can see why separating and itemising bills might have been a problem. But now why can they not give everyone at the table their own personal bill if people want that? Why only one bill per table?
I regularly eat by myself when traveling on business. I don't expect to have a dialog about splitting the bill with the similar bloke at the next table.I ♥ MSE0 -
I suppose I have been lucky in this respect, as the last time someone suggested a 7 way split of the bill, 2 people piped up that they had had more so should pay more and I only had the right amount of cash for mine plus a tip already in my hand!
Half the time I think the bill gets split this way coz people can't be bothered to sit and work it out! But in this case I do think they are taking the mick and next time you go out, way before ordering, mention that money is tight and you can't afford a 50/50 split. Good friends will accept that.0
