Don't even get me started on patriotism, I agree with Einstein, he called it "the measles of mankind!"

sorry but our kids go to school to be taught there way through life and to be educated and whats right and wrong , not to teach them "oh just stay off work that day your football team is playing take a sickie , take the afternoon off when england comes back too we dont mind go on have a break school work can wait till the worl cup is over .!!!wins :- x2 hair dyes ,mascara, epilator, personalised card , glass photo ,comp angels please throw some luck my way:j:D:A:)

I'm another who thinks it's a great idea.
It's an hour, let's keep it in perspective. Missing an hour of lesson is not going to damage their education irreparably. When I think of all the time wasted in schools faffing about with nonsense and talks and lectures because 'a' child fell and cut their knee, an hour is nothing.
Some parents may have the inconvenience of having to collect them (with short notice) but there are normally plans for this in case of illness anyway. If not, then there should be. The schools are not there to child mind after all.
The suggestion that it 'gives a bad message' is also flawed. I think it shows a willing to cooperate - give and take, meet people half way, be reasonable.
And, yes I also think it is good for the schools to promote a little patriotism. Why not? How can it possibly be a bad thing. There is so much diversity in schools and communities that it is good to have something to unite us.
Just my two cents.:D0 -

i agree also our family is into ice hockey so when the nhl finals is on would they be ok to let my dd out to watch that or her go into school late if its on during the night !!!
at the end of the day this is teaching our kids its ok to take time off even when your not ill so what attitude are they going to take when they are working and a really important night out is planned " oh its ok to pull a sickie its important i get out on time !! its all wrong as in a previous post theres ways to do this and get the school involved with the world cup from the begining ,
what about the foreign people in our school would they be alowed to be out of school for the country`s matches ????????wins :- x2 hair dyes ,mascara, epilator, personalised card , glass photo ,comp angels please throw some luck my way:j:D:A:)

I don't understand why some people think that all the children should be herded into the hall to watch a football match, whether or not they're interested, but they shouldn't be able to leave an hour early to watch it with their families, or do something else fun? There's something really messed up about that.
Schools aren't prisons. Some perspective wouldn't go amiss.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -

The idea of keeping them in school for the whole shenanigans (with refreshments) appeared to go down a storm too.
Not that I'm suggesting it is the inconvenience of having them at home an extra hour that is upsetting anybody. I mean, as if.0 -
