as ive said before im not saying the kids shouldnt enjoy the matches , i agree they should watch it and be part of it but letting them out early to do so i still think is wrong and sending them the wrong message , think the idea of the school hosting it to watch is a better and more responsible idea to do ,wins :- x2 hair dyes ,mascara, epilator, personalised card , glass photo ,comp angels please throw some luck my way

Recognising that a significant number of children will want to have the experience of supporting their team and being part of the event in a small way shows far more understanding of what it means to teach children than sitting in a classroom.
I presume that this is one part of a range of things they're doing to use the world cup as an opportunity to teach the children that life isn't all about exams and sitting quietly in class.
As part of golden time on Friday they were allowed to watch the opening ceremony and their homework this weekend was to draw an picture that represents the opening ceremony in traditional African colours.0 -
:T:T:T:T ds school has done loads of stuff around the world cup. They already have links with as school in SA so had a bit of a head start but the work cup has given them even more oppotunity to learn about apartheid, South African culture (ds told me the horn things were annoying long before we had to listen to them for 90 mins at a time lol) they had sports day planned round the WC too, each class had to choose a country to support (other than england) had had to paint their class tshirts in a design for that country (ds was spain)

brilliant i think that is the way to do it and get the kids involved from the beginning and enjoy it if my DD`s school had been doing things like that i dont suppose i would mind them letting them out for the match but my dd`s school has done nothingfor the world cup , so to the kids its just an hour off school ,wins :- x2 hair dyes ,mascara, epilator, personalised card , glass photo ,comp angels please throw some luck my way:j:D:A:)

What about school buses? Surely it takes a lot of organisation for the bus companies to change the pickup times and make the buses/drivers available?0

Sigh. I hate how obsessed with football this country is getting. Will children who hate football but love other sports be allowed to leave early for important Wimbledon matches, or Ice Hockey finals or the table tennis championships?
Don't even get me started on patriotism, I agree with Einstein, he called it "the measles of mankind!"0 -

Ds school finishes at 3.15 if they decided to let them out a bit early for kick off time I could totally understand it considering how much other WC stuff they had done.

the drivers that WILL be missing the game..
I can't recall what it was but there was something a few years back and the parents were sent a slip asking if the children would be allowed to watch a game or something in the hall on the tv with staff and other pupils with permission.. very similar to the organisation set up in the school mentioned a few posts up..
Not one of my children has the slightest bit of interest in any sport, so they stayed in class and had lessons.
And it isn't during the game the trouble happens it is when it is finished so saying it is to avoid crowds/drunk drivers/drunks outside pubs etc is not relevant as they wouldn't be there if they were at work where they should be..:p .. and it is after the game has finished and they have been trounced the trouble will start.
I knew the last game had ended and the result as soon as the police and ambulance sirens started!!!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
I don't see the problem in it at all. If they did not allow this early dart, how many pupils would be absent for the day?
There is such a big media hype these days, people get caught up in things that they wouldn't normally be interested in.
On the safety side of things, there will be drinkers and drivers rushing home.
It is not that big a deal, the hour in question would not equate to an hours worth of education, i.e getting to class and packing up. The teachers will ensure any work is done and as it is approaching the end of the school year, alot of the important stuff has already been covered.:happyhear We are not put on this earth for ourselves, but are placed here for each other.

This whole world cup has taken over literally everything and we're all supposed to go yay. I dislike football but since the whole lead up to the world cup have now come to loathe football. It's a game for gawds sake. It doesnt change history as per se like a coronation or a war. We dont learn about the history of england with the world cup thrown into the mix of a history lesson so why the hell should we all have to suffer.
I find it disgusting the way it's shoved down peoples throats and we're supposed to say "come on england" to the point children are leaving school early yet accept it. Not everyone watches the rubbish and not everyone thinks school should be less important than a football match. The whole thing is ridiculous.0 -
Perhaps it could be seen as teaching the kids to be proud of their country? I know England aren't going to do fantastic in the worldcup, but there supporting their country, its quite patriotic really. My job, is getting changed for the day though! We're finishing half day, but have to make the hours up, ah well... least i'll be home a little earlier that day!
We're not some jumped up 3rd world country with a goose-stepping army.Been away for a while.0
