If the school put it on at 2:20 then your kids wil be late home as it genrally wont finish till after 3:20, and this means there will have to be stafff staying on till whatever time, letting them out early to watch their national side (i'm welsh but will support them through as our side failed to make it again). although there will be many children savouring the thought of going home early and not interested in football at all some will be rushing home to watch it, it will be a strain on parents that depend on school hours to allow them to work, if you work a 6-2 shift your gunna be rushing to get your kids from school, the school should of really thought it through a bit more 20mins to clock out and get to the school if work is miles away is a task, for all you worker woundering how you gunna get your kids i'd show my employer the letter to justify leaving early and not just to watch the match0

One year my school let the children in early to watch it on a tv set up in the hall. Bet some people think we were wrong to do that too!0

I think it's wonderful. It's high time more people realised that education isn't just about what goes on in the classroom. Recognising that a significant number of children will want to have the experience of supporting their team and being part of the event in a small way shows far more understanding of what it means to teach children than sitting in a classroom.
I presume that this is one part of a range of things they're doing to use the world cup as an opportunity to teach the children that life isn't all about exams and sitting quietly in class.
I can't stand football and neither of my kids seem to care about it either. But where has the energy and fun gone in this country? If there are a small handful of kids who can't be left to go home alone or who aren't able to cope looking after themselves, I'm sure school are making arrangements for them. If not, then that would be a bit disappointing, but parents have been given notice so it's up to them to sort it out.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
Perhaps it could be seen as teaching the kids to be proud of their country? I know England aren't going to do fantastic in the worldcup, but there supporting their country, its quite patriotic really. My job, is getting changed for the day though! We're finishing half day, but have to make the hours up, ah well... least i'll be home a little earlier that day!Learning to be 'good with money'0

I actually think its not a bad thing -how many kids would be off 'sick' on the day of the match so they could watch the game with their parents?
Education isnt just what goes on inside the class room - the world cup can be looked at from a mathematical viewpoint - points in each table to qualify - cultural - looking at the culture of those teams in the world cup, citizenship - your child is a citizen of the world and should embrace the opportunity to learn about the world.
Also if the child were to be in school would there be much learning going on during the final hour of the day or would the football fever reach a dangerous level within the school?
At the same time I wonder if those parents who are against finishing early cause of the football also object to inset days after school holidays so childcare has to be extended, snow days and finishing early at Christmas and the beginning of Summer?
The school I work at has no plans as yet to release early on that day - however I predict a number of 'dentist' 'doctor' and other appointments will suddenly appear and their will be quite a few pupils signing out earlyLove is the answer. At least for most of the questions in my heart,
Like why are we here? And where do we go?And how come it's so hard?
It's not always easy,And sometimes life can be deceiving,
I'll tell you one thing, its always better when we're together0 -
i understand wht you al are saying but i think it`ll be sad as most of the kids will see it as a hour off school for nothing i think i`ll agree to disagree i think people can support there country without it interfeering in work and school , i think on that note its teaching the wrong message .wins :- x2 hair dyes ,mascara, epilator, personalised card , glass photo ,comp angels please throw some luck my way

That is disgusting excuse for the teachers to get off early!!
If it were about supporting the country then they should put the match on in the school hall or something!!!:silenced:They Were Up In Arms wrote: »I think tabskitten is a crying, walking, sleeping, talking, living troll :cool:0 -

I think this a big ho ha over nothing ,is one hour earlier really a big issue once every four years ? Life throws up unplanned events all the time,if it was for another reason ie teacher training etc would there still be this arguement ? Id love my kids school to do the same so they could join in the national event .

For the students we have who will be sitting a 2 hour A2 Economics paper yes I'd say it is a big deal
I like the idea of schools having big screens and all the kids who want to watching the game together (guessing it is a 3 pm start) at the end of the school day.The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0
