DH yesterday bought in another 3 boxes of books from the garage to sort out. They've been sorted through now and are destined for the car boot. We are debating on whether to do one or not this weekend.
That's another 3 big banana boxes gone then, but it hasn't affected the clutter in the house. But it still counts so I am happy. He's also photo'd some stuff for ebay, and I've asked him to take a few pictures for me, so hopefully before the weekend, we might have some new bits listed. That will be the first for ages, so pleased about that.
I'm currently selling one of my relisted items, so that is good.
I've been thinking about whether it would be possible to pull up the carpet in our bedroom. We removed the carpet in the other two bedrooms when we were clearing the house, but for some reason DH decided that the one in our bedroom should stay. It's bright orange and very 60s/70s and very dusty. I hate it. The curtains are orange too, and the net curtain is torn in several places. I found some replacement net curtain, and could probably get some new curtains cheaply enough, so I really just want to pull it up and get rid of it. I think it will make the room look cleaner, brighter and feel more fresh. It also won't clash horribly with my bedding etc.
The biggest problem however, will be convincing DH. The reason he didn't pull it up is because he doesn't want to walk on floorboards and thinks the room will be warmer. Both which are valid reasons, but I think we could get some carpet runners fairly cheaply which will be a plain colour and not 50 years old!
I think I will have to plant the idea and let it take root :rotfl:"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee0 -
Hiya Jwil
Good to hear some decluttering has been done - i agree it makes you feel so much better knowing things are gone which aren't needed. :T:T:T
I totally sympathise with you on the carpet - the floor in our bathroom and living room are the 2 we have not been able to change yet and i really dislike them.

It's funny how these things can bother you isn't it. All of our carpets are 60's/70s hideously multicoloured patterned things. To me they are really 'busy' and stress me out. They are also full of dust however much I hoover. It disgusts me. We have some offcuts which we are using in the kitchen as a rug as the floor is bare concrete and I took them outside to give them a beating and so much dust was coming out of them even though they are hoovered regularly (and I have a decent hoover):eek:
Also the patterns and colours mean that I can't see when the cat has kindly vomited in the middle of the floor "Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee0 -
I have finally got off my lazy rear and done some listing on ebay :j:T:j:T:j:T:j:T:j:T
26 listings for me and 19 for DH. I also listed a book on amazon!
Fingers crossed the money starts rolling in now :rotfl:"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee0 -
I have sold a book on amazon too, yay! That's £5.19 to add to my total.
Have a good weekend everyone!"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee0 -
Hi Jwil,
Well Done on getting so many things listed on e-bay :T:T:T and for selling a book tooI will list some new things later today
I sold 1 99p thing last week and have 2 selling todayit all helps though - things leaving the house and money coming in.
I need to stay out of the shops at the moment i thinkI haven't spent anything simply because i don't have any money at all to do so. But I tried on the most gorgeous coat yesterday - classic black rain coat, fit beautifully and was reduced by £45 (was £69.99 precisely :rotfl:) to £25 and a stunning jumper reduced from £35 to £10. Am debating whether I should give myself a payday treat if they are still there then
:o:o Am actually due to be getting a bit extra in my wage this month from some extra i did a while ago. Due to get a fair bit more than £35 but still.... Need someone to talk some sense into me methinks :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I'm trying to remember your wardrobe inventoryDo you need a coat and a jumper? There's nothing wrong with a treat every now and again. If you don't NEED them, then maybe think about it. A coat would be more useful than a jumper at the moment (it's summer time now dontcha know
).
But then I am the last person to give advice. I spent the whole day yesterday watching a pine dresser on ebay. I was fully prepared to pay £200 for it, but it went for nearly £400 in the end so I was saved  I really don't NEED a pine dresser"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". We've had a fairly productive weekend, yesterday were sorting out some bits in the garage and put out 10 boxes of stuff to go to the boot sale.
We did a boot sale this morning and sold loads of stuff :j:j We got rid of 3 banana boxes full of books :T So pleased with that.
I may have purchased the odd book or two as well though
Not going to do much this afternoon as it was a VERY early start this morning thanks to the clocks changing.
My relists from ebay are going out this afternoon and 3 books are selling there, I've sold another book on amazon, and one item sold on ebay on Friday. Pretty good methinks.
Hope everyone is having a good weekend"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee0 -
Just worked out we sold over 150 books yesterday at the boot sale :j"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee0

I've started taking part in the A-Z reading challenge on here - you read a book by an author from every letter of the alphabet. The other day I went through all of my 'to be read' books and managed to find one from every letter of the alphabet with the exception of X. I've had a quick look on amazon and found a few starting with X and so I'll probably download one to my kindle from here.
I'm not reading them in alphabetical order, hence J and Z having been crossed off already as I finished them at the weekend.
Here is my list - it consists mainly of books that I've had for ages, but haven't really fancied starting. I'm hoping this challenge will encourage me to read them and then get rid of them rather than picking other books I want to read more. Some of them are ones that I'm looking forward to reading too, so there is a good balance.
A. Kate Atkinson - One Good Turn
B. Harry Bowling - That Summer in Eagle Street
C. Justin Cartwright - The Promise of Happiness
D. Will Davenport - The Painter
E. Charles Elton - Mr Toppit
F. Fannie Flagg - Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistlestop Cafe
G. George Gissing - The Odd Women
H. Joanne Harris - Holy Fools
I. Kazuo Ishiguro - A Pale View of Hills

K. Jonathan Kellerman - The Murder Book
L. Carlo Levi - Christ Stopped at Eboli
