And so the payments have begun :)

I called up my loan this morning and got the settlement figure from them. The cheque is in the post :j. The only thing is, after calling them, I noticed that the settlement figure was higher than it was in my statement had I paid the loan off on the 20th November. I think this must be because they probably haven't taken into account my payment this month which came out on 4th.

I've put a letter in saying that I've sent the figure they quoted, but if it is an overpayment, to send me a refund of the difference, and if not, please explain why the amount has gone up! It's only about £15, but that could be going to something else!

I've transferred some money between accounts, so will have to wait a few days now to do some more. I've paid off about 1/3rd of the credit card that I was planning on, and will do the rest once the money has transferred. I've also paid a few small bits as well. I will update my signature with the new amounts when things have cleared.

My debt total will go up as all the interest on the new loan is added at the start, but then it should be downhill all the way :j

Been doing my maths again and playing with the figures. I keep having a :eek::eek: at my new total. By paying the minimums all year, this time next year I will be back at the same level of debt as I am now.:(

I know I need to look at the long term picture, and the figure is only going up because all of the interest is added at the front, not on a monthly basis as it is at the moment on the loan and the CC. It's still scary though, even though I will save thousands over the next few years.

We have to remortgage in April 12, and I wanted to have cleared a lot of debt by then, but it won't look much different to now.

Oh well, I still believe I have done the right thing, and it should just be an additional focus for next year to actually clear as much as possible.

Yes, i think you've done the right thing too!! and if your ebay sales and amazon sales continue i think you could pay off more than you think in the coming year hun! :)

I looked through a box of stuff rummaged out of the loft today and have found a couple of good finds to sell on ebay-when i've got time!!

We've still got loads of stuff to sort out in the loft :o and i intend to sort it a box or 2 at a time and have a 'charity' box a 'to sell' box and a 'bin' box-so hopefully in the next 2 months i should have cleared a sizeable chunk (well, that's the plan anyway!! ). ;)

    Oh and I got £40 m & s vouchers from pigsback on saturday!!! :T

Hold steady there, jwil. As long as you stick to your plan, all will be well in the end. :)

I have finally scheduled for listing one bundle of clothes and have 4 other large bundles all washed ,ironed, sorted and ready to be photographed. Might split one of those into two. Loads more clothes around the house but I've other stuff to be getting on with so I'll leave the rest until after Christmas I think.

Now I've sorted out one listing (I decided to use an online listing site that does really good templates) the rest will be fairly quick.

So much to do, so little time. Must prepare a 'things to do before Christmas' list tomorrow.

Thanks guys, I'm better today. Of course the idea is NOT just to pay off the minimums so I should be in a much better position than I anticipate. And I'm going to save thousands in interest so it is a much better deal long term.

Now this time next year, I want my 'official' debt level to be around £20,000. This excludes the loan from my DH which does not show on my credit record. That basically means I need to have nothing left but this new loan by next Christmas as the minimums on that will bring it down to just over £20k.

I'm going to sit down and work out the official figures, but BRING ON THE CHALLENGE! I think it will be around £13k

Well done on the sorting Tattycath, I'm off after Tuesday next week, so am planning on getting some sorting and organising done while I'm off. DH has to work most of Christmas so I'll have the peace and quiet to get on with it.

Great news on the vouchers :j

Well done on getting organised. Which template site are you using out of curiosity?

I really need to get sorted with what needs doing for Christmas. First priority - Christmas cards. I don't send many, but need to get them done, especially the one to my Canadian relatives which I haven't sent yet and presume the last posting date was ages ago :o
