    Hi all

Really fancy trying out the rice pudding in the slow cooker tonight and just wondered what size slow cookers you all have for the quantities given on this site? I have a very big (6.5l) MR cooker and just have a vision of the quantities given getting lost on the bottom.

Also wondered how long you cook it for ?

    Thanks

Bit impatient and couldn't wait :D Have doubled a recipe I found on here and put in 200g pudding rice, 2 litres milk and 160g sugar. Am going to put on low tonight before I go to bed so it will be ready to take out and wash the SC in time for my beefy stew tomorrow :T

Give it a good stir to loosen the grains before you go to bed.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

Thanks - just realised that I haven't buttered the SC - should I take the stuff out and do it or try a rub some butter round and hope for the best  .

Serves me right for rushing it :rotfl:

I tried rice pudding once and thank goodness I was in the house as even on low it burnt and made the house reek - I don't think I'd chance it overnight or while I was out tbh.
Trying very hard to be frugal and OS - just plodding on and doing my best!

Now I'm worried - wonder if I should leave it until tomorrow? Mind that leaves with a problem as planned a beef stew in SC tomorrow for tea.
  • I have only ever made it when I am around to keep stirring tbh - it comes out creamy not with skin on (we don't like skin!):p
As TrixieB said it catches very easily so never risk leaving it unattended.
Can also do on the low heat on hob if you want a creamy rice pudding - doesn't take too long and I keep topping up with milk to make it extra creamy.
Though maybe you can put it on high now if are planning to be up for a while, keep stirring and then switch off when you go to bed?

Also thinking about it - 200g seems a lot of rice to me! I use a cup of pudding rice to about 6 pints of milk and have a big pot full.:T
Also seems to be a lot of sugar! I use about a large serving spoonful - but dad always complains is not enough. :rotfl:

I've just doubled a recipe on here. I think I'll leave it until the morning and cook on medium for about 3 hours, which will still give me time to cook my stew for tea. Thanks for all of the advice

Just wanted to say that I made the rice pudding this morning and OMG it is fantastic :j

Really creamy (despite using skimmed milk), lovely and sweet (may cut down sugar a little for future batches but no-one is complaining here :D ) and didn't stick at all.

There is a lot of it but with five of us in the house, all eating adult portions, I can't see it lasting long.

Thanks to everyone for the advice
  • how long did you cook for and at what temp please? :)
