If you want to test your slow cooker, put ½ litre of cold water in it and heat it on high. After 6 hours the water should be just simmering – just below the boil, or 98C if you have a cooking thermometer. (from The Slow Crock Cook Book – Franny Singer 1978)

Saw on a thread someone wrote about making rice pudding in a SC....can anyone tell me how to do it? Thanks
We don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.

Yes, I use 2oz pudding rice, 2 ozs sugar with 1 pt milk. Throw it all in, give it a stir, and leave on low for 5 - 6 hrs.
    It's yummy, very creamy.
  • Some evaporated milk in the mix is nice, too.

Just about to make some rice pudding in the slow cooker BUT only about 50 grains of pudding rice in the cupboard.

I see no reason why I shouldn't use the arborio risotto rice I have instead?

    Hi sandieb,

I've never tried it, but this thread seems to suggest it would work:

I have made a rice pudding in my slow cooker. - It was a slimming world one though

    Ingredients:
    350ml skimmed milk
    350ml water
    4oz rice
    3 tbsp powdered sweetener
    cinnamon or nutmeg

    Directions:
Put everything in a slow cooker and stir. Cook on low setting all day or high for a couple of hours.

It tasted really nice when I made it - I made it for myself and my OH but I ended up eating it all.

    HTH
