School declined holidays and branded the kids truants

Anthony uk, you sound like an ill educated oik. Methinks your parents should have taken you out of school for the odd holiday. May well have made you a more rounded person:p0

I now realise where I went wrong at school
I never missed a day through holidays
I can't recall missing a day through illness
I never pulled a sickie all the time that I was there.
& I left school with next to buggger all in exam passes.
Just think what I could have achieved if I'd had a holiday (or two !)0 -

Actually, I suspect Anthony UK needs more than puctuation lessons;- "termtime holidays in school year" that would be why they are called term time holidays, the "school year" is superfluous!0

If you don't want kids around you then you could quite easily go to an 'adults only' resort or a resort that only caters for couples then you would not have that 'risk' of having your holiday 'ruined' by someone else's children.
It's like people who go to family restaurants and them complain that there are too many kids.
there are few things more annoying than brats (and by that i mean real brats, clearly lots of children are not brats) ruining holidays for their own families and for other people. i'd like to avoid them altogether, and in general, avoid most other tourists but as i can't afford it, i just have to live with it..... (hmmm... can't afford it so tough.... somehow this applies to some people but not others)
i guess i don't understand why there are so many people who think they are so 'special' (not just in relation to wanting holidays). there are so many jobs where holidays are set for you; you have no choice (often in the much-attacked public sector!). plenty of jobs include working on public holidays or over festive periods.
anyway, in terms of the OP's post (many moons ago), if you book a holiday before confiming leave, there isn't much you can do. do you have insurance? how much of the payment is non-refundable?:happyhear0 -
What really irritates me is that the schools make a huge fuss about taking kids out during term time but if there is the slightest hint of a snowflake they are very quick to shut up shop for no apparent reason (and this is apparently acceptable).
I think each case has to be judged by its merits. I'm not sure it's OK for a child to be taken out of school during term time for 10 days EVERY year but if a child has generally good attendance, I don't see why the odd exception can't be made. Thanks to everyone who posts comps, I love winning prizes big and small

LEA's and schools are being encouraged by the Govt to tighten up on termtime holidays so in future it could well be frowned on and punished by fines and/or prison/loss of school places etc for anyone who does, firstly it isn't an automatic right for a parent to get 10 days for a termtime holiday and secondly it's up to discretion by schools and LEA's whether it is allowed or not(which none of you dullards understand),and thirdly it's right parents are punished for blantant ignorance and disregard for it where parents transgress those rules and go on termtime holidays regardless of what a school or LEA says. I'm with the schools and LEA's on this NOT the rights of the parents and families to do so!0
