AnthonyUK, that is clearly not going to happen. The parents will get fined and reported and that is the end of it. Unless they are taking their kids out of school for months at a time that will be the end of it. The parents who are sent to jail are the ones who do not send their children to school at all for months at a time.

The issue is that there should be one rule for everyone and headteachers should not be allowed to change their school because they feel like it or to lower their stats. My children are allowed to have 10 days so next year we are taking it, this year they have had one day off because we had no bathroom so we had to go stay elsewhere.

It is not fair that a family of 2 children can have one child with an authorisation and one without so there should be a clear rule.

However, when you state that you never missed your time in education and that your standard of education was excellent would you please back that up by writing in paragraphs, using sentences and by using the correct punctuation to back up your case.

Very interesting post! My dd's school was closed earlier in the year for almost a week, because of the '. snow'. In my opinion, and the opinion of many other parents, this was an overeation to the point of lunacy.
Personally, I and my dd saw it as a great adventure,- being out in the snow, making snowman, sledging etc, but there were many parents who were forced to take time off work because of this.
As far as i'm concerned the school showed scant regard for those parents, not even bothering to inform them, sometimes , not till they showed up at the school gates in the morning.
I'm all for respect, but it works both ways!
I would have no hesitation in removing my dc for a week every year in term time. to go on holiday.
Have done this year, and will do the same next year. Happy holidays everyone:)

Some parents HAVE lost school places for doing so and some LEAs DO remove kids from the school register for doing so.

Anthony, please could you find a few links that back up your claim that parents have been put into prison for taking their children on a 2 week holiday, in term time (I'm not asking for links to repeat offenders, long term truants , or parents who have breached guidelines time and time again, but for parents who have been jailed for a fortnights holiday).

BTW, I thought that it was the Court Sysytem that jailed people, not the LEA :coffee:

Unless you can back up that confident assertion with evidence these extreme claims are you are starting to make you appear very foolish. Like everyone else you are entitled to your opinion, but if to get your post across you resort to outright lies, or distortion of the the truth, it weakens, rather than strengthens your case.

So, find us some links to cases where an LEA has prosecuted and sucessfully won a custodial sentence against a parent for removing a child for a term time holiday of 2 weeks or less. Ditto, evidence to support your contention of a child being removed from role.

Put termtime holidays into google and look at the various local authority guidelines on it;more are frowning on the practice AND some ARE using removal from school registers as a sanction.

no, no, no, no, no, old fruit, that isn't what Poet, blue monkey and I were asking you to do, at all, in the slightest, by any degree of the imagination.

We (well poet & me, anyway) were asking you to provide links that back up your claim that parents are getting put into chalky for taking their children out of school, for a holiday, in term time. Thats not long time absenteeisn, truancy etc etc, but term time holidays.

I would really be very interested in the links that you are able to provide, unless of course, you are making up facts to fit your point of view.

Surely, that wouldn't be the case, would it ?

Well all you parents who are prepared to ignore LEA's and schools and go on holiday regardless I hope you lose your child school places or even face a prison sentence or be on tag for it because that is what some LEA's are doing to parents who ignore schools and LEA's by going over their heads to take kids on holiday in school termtime periods, serves you right! It HAS happened round the country on one or two occasions to parents who have done because like I say some LEA's are tightening up so much on this that's it's impossible to do so without a severe punishment on the parents for going against what you have been told FULL STOP. Would you take your on holiday in school term time in an LEA area which implements these draconian measures if you knew it would hurt you as a parent knowing that the threat of a prison sentence or being on tag or losing your children's school places hangs over your head? Think about it because that is what some LEA's threaten on parents who go over school's and LEA's wherewithal and take them on holiday in termtime regardless of being told "you can't", by the schools and the LEA's.

Do you really believe that the courts are going to imprison parents who take there Kids out of school for a week or two ?

You sound quite bitter - I can't quite work out whether its kids you don't like, the parents or both.

Now thats just plain old not nice.

Usually when someone does that on a forum, its because they have come onto a thread, spouted out complete bovine excrement, have been asked by other forum contributors to back up their posts (i.e show that they are based in fact, not in la la opinion land), and then get all upset, defensive, offensive, aggressive with others.

That wouldn't be you Anthony, would it ?

Note, my last comment was not "picking" on you, just returning in kind your charming adjective.
