School declined holidays and branded the kids truants

I'am glad more and more schools are saying no to parents wanting to take their kids on holiday in termtime, and that LEA's are taking a dim view of parents who do so, and punishing them by removing their kids schoolplaces or sending parents to prison for doing it regardless of any savings-I was never allowed to skip for school for a termtime hol in my day-you took what you were given so what gives you parents the right to do it?0

So am I,it allows people like me who prefers to have as childfree a holiday as possible to plan accordingly.
Nothing worse than screaming kids to spoil a holiday or flight.0 -
Haven't read all the posts on this
but when I was going through secondary school in the 1980s, it was normal for many children to be absent on holiday during September and June/July. My parents used to take me on two week-long holidays a year, one in the school holidays and one in term-time. These absences didn't affect my education (4 A-levels), nor did the absence of other pupils affect how the classes worked.
I really think that it should be left for parents to know best. Holidays can be educational - foreign languages, culture, history, maths (working out exchange rates).
I foresee that I am going to have really bad clashes with Andrew's schools on this when he gets older.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

It happened all the time when I was at school,( late 60's 70's:eek:) and my parents did it occasionally, and as far as I am aware and it never harmed my education.
It seems your beef is that you didn't have that opportunity, so want punish the people who do have that option.
Do you apply that philosophy to all areas of life?
If it really was the case that it harmed the average child, and caused lasting educational issues, that would be one thing, but when it is actually to cover the backs of administrators, and to massage stats, that is another issue entirely, imo.0 -

I didn't have that opportunity because I had parents that actually CARED about my education and wanted me to do well(and I did). Parents who do it regularly are basically couldn't care less oiks and chavs probably on benefit with no job who think the working class owe them a living and have a stupid chav notion that think getting away lots is more important than an educated child who attends his school regularly on time with good attendances etc who has decent qualifications and gets places in life with good job/prospects and career etc. That is more important than a young oik who regularly interrupted his education because parents wanted regular termtime holidays from him who has no job and lives off the state and milks it for all he can get because the parents cannot be bothered to give their child a good education or bother making them attend school regularly and punctually regularly going on hols to wreck the child's education and chances of doing well in life.
i hardly think branding parents who take their kids out of school during termtime is a very well educated thing to say.
not all education comes from within the classroom, there is such a thing as life experience. you would learn from that what is appropriate to post on a forum and also not to make derogatory sweeping generalisations0 -

That must be why I, and all my family are such academic failures. Thank you for enlightening me.:D0 -
It is my opinion that there can't be a standard solution. It all depends on the individual. If a child has a lot of time off due to sickness then it would be harder to justify time off for holidays than for a child whio is never off school. We used to take our son off school occasionally for a short term time holiday and it has not harmed his education is any way - He's on course to achieve 14 A* in his exams.0
