Good job I am destined for the other place then!;) I can also offer an English teacher in mittigation, the fourth son is, as yet, undecided, so perhaps I had better steer him away fron the law, estate agency and politics then:T.....how about banking:D tax official, or parking warden?0 -

LEA holiday asconder enforcement interfernece busybody non-jobber ?0 -
In my day as a child of the 70's and 80's you went on holiday in school holiday periods or not at all-there was NO question of taking termtime holidays whatsoever. My parents ACTUALLY CARED ABOUT MY EDUCATION AND WANTED ME TO DO WELL AND WE TOOK OUR BREAKS IN SCHOOL HOLIDAYS. I agree with LEA's frowning on and punishing and prosecuting and jailing parents for taking them on holiday in termtime because if you do it regularly it sets a bad example to those kids for when they have kids of their own, they'll do the same thing and it spirals out of control.0

Just for info, I have a place in Florida and I find that if I wait until August to go I can usually get a cheaper deal on flights. I usually go with AA and have found that last year and this, their flights go down if you can go mid/late August. You have to keep an eye out for their sale though. It may have something to do with the kids in America going back to school a lot earlier than ours. So basically if you do have to go in school hols, it is much cheaper if you can wait until the last few weeks. There are three ways to get something done; do it yourself, hire someone or forbid your kids to do it.0

Capital letters really make your point much clearer.
Reading the actual thread might help you understand the actual problem though. Were you sick for the 'comprehension' section of your education?0 -

If more people were aware that they have the freedom to question and examine the parameters around them we might have a happier nation instead of one, IMO that is made up of large numbers of lovely folk who are frustrated beyond belief by the strictures laid down but somehow don't seem to think they 'ought' to question things.
I am constantly in demand to sort out issues with 'authority' because so few people feel confident taking on the dreaded 'AUTHORITY'.
My children, I am pleased to say feel free to question anyone and anything at will, including me.:rotfl:
Long may it continue.:T
I'm another who agrees with your philosophy Flossy. We shouldn't just follow rules slavishly, regardless of whether those rules are sensible or not.
My son is not unruly and ill-disciplined (taking into account his age) nor impolite (we are frequently complimented on his manners), despite being taken on term-time holidays 3 times in 6 years.
He is, however, bright and well educated, and able to question whether rules are sensible and useful. If they are not, then he will look at negotiating ways round them, managing the situation to meet his needs and requirements.
Which is how we should all live, surely.
look back to my earlier posting (#98), for my take on the matter.I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.0 -
What a load of bull about ignoring rules, what about the schools where they are shutting early when world cup matches are on, surely kids education is more important than teachers watching a game of football, doubles standards as far as I see, its about time teachers got back to teaching.Approach her; adore her. Behold her; worship her. Caress her; indulge her. Kiss her; pleasure her. Kneel to her; lavish her. Assert to her; let her guide you. Obey her as you know how; Surrender is so wonderful! For Caroline my Goddess.0

If my school shut for football I certainly won't be watching it!! I could get on with some report writing, planning, marking or assessment instead. Any of those options would be preferable to watching any game of football.0
