It's a common tactics of some companies in this field to open and close ltd companies like clockwork. This in effect means they do not pay creditors as the firm will have few assets. I am very sorry to hear of your trouble. There needs to be a huge overall of how this marketing sector is regulated and the authorities need much stronger powers to deal with the individuals involved.0

Trading Standards suggested we send registered letter stating that time in the contact is of the essence and if delivery cannot be made within 14 days requesting a full refund. The letter was returned to us as "addressee gone away". Just been on the Insolvency website and found that a Amarjit Gill of Virgo Healthcare, ABM Mobility Healthcare and presumably of Lifestyle as the addresses all match has been granted bankruptcy as of 31st March 2011. I suppose we can say bye bye to my mum's £1500. Warwickshire Police have been very sympathetic but have said their powers are limited.0

Why don't we all name our particular "salesman"?0
-
I am sure there is no problem with naming your salesman. I am very sorry to hear of yet more elderly people ripped off by basically scum companies - so often headed by one very greedy and unsavory man - who then go into liquidation, knowingly having taken the savings of some of the most vulnerable amongst us.
Anyone who has paid by credit card can contact their credit card company for a chargeback refund.0 -

Sadly therein lies the problem. They convience the oldies to pay by cheque - tradition & all that - which has no recompense.
GBP4850 is lots of cash to lose, & we're not going to allow them to take this without a fight.0 -

Long Eaton Mobility Salesman jailed after conning 86 year old womanBy LEClare | Wednesday, April 13, 2011, 13:12
Alan Frettingham, a mobility salesman who worked for ABM Mobility in Long Eaton, conned his way into an 86 year old woman's affections and bank account.
The Victim, Barbara Shepherd, suffers from dementia and her friends and neighbours became concerned when, after Mr Frettingham had sold her a chair and bath lift, he made repeat visits to the vulnerable pensioner claiming he was going to help her 'sort her finances'. He set up a joint account in both their names and conned her out of over £30k.
Readers will be pleased to hear that Alan Frettingham has been jailed for three years for his horrifying emotional and financial abuse of the woman.
I do wonder however, what will he will do when he is released? There seem to be no controls for who is allowed to enter the home of vulnerable adults and pensioners and cases like this lead me to feel that perhaps there should be.
Additionally, this is not the first time that Salesmen from ABM have been accused of inappropriate behaviour towards pensioners with mobility issues, Watchdog undertook an investigation last year, highlighting areas of concern to the public. You can read more about that on the BBC Watchdog webpage.
At the end of December last year, the owner of ABM Mobility, Amarjit Gil, was given a suspended jail sentence under the Enterprise Act 2002 for breaching an injunction forbidding the company to use aggressive practices, make false claims and deceive customers.
This company has traded as ABM, Virgo, Nationwide and most recently Lifestyle Mobility & Healthcare from it's base in Long Eaton until the owner, Amarjit Gill, was granted bankruptcy on 31st March.
Trading Standards have complaints and issues folders thick on these companies who habitually and deliberately set out to strip pensioners of their money and yet almost nothing could be done.
What do you think should be done to protect vulnerable adults in our society?
