  • Hi

If this has been happening for months, would it be better to look for another bank to do business with? Halifax isnt the most competitive (sp) and maybe worth you looking around:confused:

Have you been charged any fees?

I hope you get it sorted, but i would seriously consider moving to a bank that will value your custom.

What I think has happened is this:

The Halifax has reserved the amount for the Standing Order in your account; this has reduced your available balance; therefore, it appears that your balance has gone down as this money is no longer available for other things.

I have noticed that Vix2000 stated that could transfer funds from another account to cover any shortfall, so if they needed the money why haven’t they tried to transfer these funds?

It should be noted that in your accounts T&Cs that the money to cover DDs and SOs must be in your account on the previous working day: this was Friday, so the account provider is within their rights to reserve the required amount to meet these commitments before allowing any other transaction to take place.

    Thanks for the support.

I'm going to get further advice on this as I don't think it right.

The date on the transaction should be the date the money is taken, not the day after to hide what they're doing.

If its company policy, as I was told, its happening to all their customers.

Excuse me, this is the 21st century. They are not still using the man running with a cleft stick.

Why does the money have to be there the previous working day? We now have satellites, computers, internet etc. etc. Banks are still in the dark ages.

True, but the account provider (don't forget the Building Societies) could process the DDs and SOs and the start of the financial day and your transfer could happen after all debits have been actioned. Would you be happy to incur a low charge for having insufficient funds whilst your transfer was taking place?

What were you going to do with the money anyway?

Withdraw it today, spend it and not have enough to cover the SO at midnight or whenever you think it "should" be taken?

THEN complain about being charged for it failing?

How do you know they have taken them? As I stated earlier, reserved funds are not available for other transactions, thus your available balance, which would be quoted to you by telephone and internet banking, shows a reduced figure; however your actual balance remains unchanged until the appropriate date.
