halifax! can they do this?

I have just looked on online banking and there were 2 standing order transactions takennout of my acct dated 28th August.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't it the 27th? I immediately phone 24hr banking and say that basically, this is my money and i might have wanted access to it today and they have taken it early.

It has happened before on a sunday for smaller amounts, but this was for my mortgage, which is on a halifax payment plan, and water rates.

I am furious. They say that they tell people money has to be in the day before and I said that I might have wanted to use the funds and pay it back from another account at 5 to midnight tonight. He used the argument that 8pm friday was last business day until tuesday, but with online banking the money is transferred immediately.
I am annoyed they have dated the transaction 28th on my statement, so that if i hadn't checked I wouldn't know. Surely this is fraud?

How many of you is this happening to, and how much extra interest are they making out of having all our money 24hrs early?

I feel like charging them £38 for taking my money early and without my authorisation.

Can anything be done about this travesty of justice?

Calm down. You are being way too melodramatic. The payment has not been taken yet. It will show on your account as August 28th and will come out on August 28. It is just the way the Halifax systems work that it shows 1 day early.

No, its definately been taken out and the balance available reduced. So MY money is not available to me today because THEY have taken it early. We're talking a standing order not a direct debit here.

It is also nothing to do with the bank holiday as it has been happening for months but for smaller amounts.

I have actually spoken to halifax customer services who have confirmed that this is company policy.

Nowhere in their terms and conditions does it allow them to take money for standing orders a day early.

I wonder how many others it has happened to who won't even know because they put the following days date on the transaction.

It may show as being taken out today, but for interest calculation and on your statement it will show as being taken out tomorrow.

Exactly. If you were to take out all the monet you should have in your account out today, it would let you. You would be arsed tomorrow though;)

No, I cannot take the money out.

the money has been taken, believe me, its not just showing as taken. it has been confirmed by their customer services. As it is nearly £800 I do know its not available.

I am not bothered about interest, my argument is that If i need the money today i cannot use it because they have it. As far as I know the money to cover standing orders needs to be in the account by midnight the day before. So they should not take it until after midnight.

So, using your argument, how would you get the money back into your account by midnight on a Sunday/Monday morning?

I can't believe you don't see the principal in this!!!

I could transfer the money from any of my other, or any other halifax accounts by online banking and make an instant transfer up to 11.59pm tonight.

I also can't believe that you're asking me to justify how I would pay it when they have actually taken my money illegally. Surely how I pay it is my problem, and nothing to do with the fact that they have taken the money 24 hours before it should have been taken.

Presumably they won't pay the companies until monday, so therefore they have made 24 hours interest on all the money they have taken a day early from all their customers who won't even know because they have put on the statements that it has been taken on the correct day.

It doesn't matter that it *looks* as if it has been taken, the date is the 28th August. Now if they money had been deducted and the date shown was the 27th August, you would have just cause to be !!!!!! off.

Don't you understand that it HAS been taken?

My balance available should be over £800 until tomorrow and it isn't. I have phoned customer services, who have confirmed that the funds aren't available today.

    This is why I'm angry.

If it had been a direct debit and it was taken a day early it would come under the dd guarantee.
