anyone used consumer money matters to reclaim PPI

Hi

I have thought about reclaiming PPi for ages and neve got round to it. I had a phone call from consumer money matters to say they could reclaim. I have had 2 loans previously with PPI's only approximately knowing the details of them, I don't think i have any paperwork now for them. Has anyone used this company, as when the guy was speaking to me he said someone would have to come out and next week with papers to go through and sign which would take about 45 mins. Their fee is 25% of anything that was reclaimed plus a £100 admin charge. Due to myself only kNowing approx details is it easier to reclaim through this company or tell me if they are any good or should i try and reclaim myself?

Thanks

    Hi and welcome

I say give it a go yourself where you get to keep all your ppi refund if successful.

Many have had problems using claims companies, when you get the chance check the threads, and loads have been messed about.

You can also check the company out with The Ministry of Justice (MOJ):
    http://www.justice.gov.uk/contactus.htm

And regards of reclaiming, follow the guidelines to the FOS questionnaire here below link (You send this to whom is responsible for setting up the loans), keep copies.
These are used instead of template letters and quite new issued by the financial ombudsman service (FOS).
They have 8 weeks in full to respond and keep at them.

If you no paperwork, and know your reasons for being mis sold, you can track your account numbers down on banking statements, where you paid the monthly loan repayments, the account number should be shown next to the payments made every month.

Or another way to for your documentation is to request a Subject Access Request (SAR), they have 40 calendar days to comply, and send all they hold on your account(s), you enclose £10 postal order or cheque payment for this request.
    SAR template letter here:
    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/1475553

    Or

For just the loan agreements, request they send you a copy by 12 day by writing a simple letter, and enclose £1 postal order or cheque payment.
The agreement should disclose any PPI if taken out on the loan agreement.

Post at your local post office for proof of delivery.

    Good luck.

  • Hi all,

I received a call from Consumer Money Matters today also, saying exactly the same thing. Initially I agreed to have someone come to over to go through things, but then I changed my mind as I thought I would go it alone rather than pay someone 25% of my claim.
I was told "it may take you up to 6 months to get a response and/or claim.....we can do it in 12-14 weeks".
Anyway, 2 mins after putting the phone down with the sales person, his manager rings me, telling me exactly what ive already heard from the first person! she wasn't taking no for an answer at first! Talk about pressure selling! Completely put me off them.
Just thought this may be of help to someone who may get a call from them!

Im going it alone! wish me luck guys and girls

    Hi All

[TEXT DELETED BY FORUM TEAM] I paid the £100.00 admin fee and all they did was to pass the paperwork on to a company called Key Financial Claims. This company does not take an up front fee but does take 25% plus VAT. [TEXT DELETED BY FORUM TEAM]

    Hiya

I would ask them to send you a breakdown in full detail.

But I understand charges do apply as such when settling a loan earlier, maybe someone will confirm on this one for you.
Defo ask for a detailed written breakdown though, so you will know what is what with the calculation settlement.;)

  • These guys are in the same group of companies as Carrington Carr Home Finance Ltd in Leciester.

Don't forget financial claims is a non regulated business.

  • I had a call from these guys on Monday. I asked the usual questions, and made sure there was no upfront fee (been stung with that before) told the only fee was 29.5% of re-claimed amount, no claim, no fee, no money to pay upfront etc etc..... 35 minutes later I put the phone down and recieved a call again 2 within minutes, a consultant booked to call on me today. Told it was a 30 to 45 minute consultation. Well, I can tell you now, pressure sales isn't in it. After over an hour of being quizzed about all aspects of my finances, insurances, will status, where would my estate go, what would happen if I was in long term residential care etc etc, finally got to filling in forms, then whilst reading the "small print" noticed an upfront fee to the company for administration purposes is applicable. At that point I told the guy I wasn't interested, and that at no point had I been told there was such a fee payable, even when I specifically asked during the initial phone call, he tried everything, including phoning his boss who gave him authorisation to waive the fee. Alarm bells ringing in my ears I was still not interested but boy was it hard to get the guy out of the door. I did feel bad about wasting so much time on this matter, but hey, it's a lesson learned.
Since he left at 4-30 I have downloaded an appropriate form, filled it in and will send it to Egg first thing tomorrow morning, sit back and see if the price of a stamp brings me some pennies back. If not, nothing lost :)
Thanks for the heads up on this company, I have to say that readingg some of the experiences on here helped me this afternoon in making sure that I read everything.
    all the best

Had a call from these yesterday but i was on my way out and she agreed to phone me back today....basically she wasnt taking no for an answer and insisited that if i had ppi or loan insurance they could help claim it back. I was getting a bit peed off with listening to the bull she was chatting so I said to her...right i'll stop you there! And I went on to tell her that if i want any advise on claiming ppi or any other monies back I would do it myself for free with the aid of Money saving expert.com and politely said my goodyes.

Now i have been meaning to get round to doing this ppi claim back and at least she has given me a timely reminder cos hell do I need the money so at least it was good for one thing.....now wheres that Sars letter gone ?
