I see all of the fees etc above and the harsh sales method and frankly I am worried.

I am in debt management (with CAP UK excellent company well recommended) due to a miss sold mortgage which spiralled my debts out of control, been contacted by tones of companies about claiming back ppi but when cmm contacted me and I told them about my miss sold mortgage they said they could claim money back for me.

I have had a bad feeling in my bones since taking out the service as I was taken advantage of when remortgaging last time.

I don't understand why any company would need money up front, if it is a no win no fee, surely you win the case you pay the admin fee, you lose the case you don't.

In listening to the message, while you wait for one of their team to answer the phone, it says you can wait 8-9 months to get your money back if you don't win, now that is why they take it up front.

I signed up over a month ago now and although I have talked to them on the phone I'm worried about my money.

Can I cancel a month in without losing my money for 9 months?

    Please Help?

If it says on the paperwork or on a recorded line that you'll get the fee back if the claim is unsuccessful then that is exactly what will happen. You have to ask yourself why such a large company would want to cause a problem for themselves by even attempting to hold onto money they have agreed to pay back in the event the claim is unsuccesful. Apart from the fact it would be wrong, it also doesn't make any business sense for them to do that.

Call them again and get them to clarify the fee is completely refundable if you're still unsure.

.They use a company BlackBerry with Key IVR. It's one of the most secure ways to take payment. As it doesn't store the card information, they don't take any of your payment information away with them. You should have got an authorisation code from your bank and receipt?

How do you know all this?

As they're a legitimate company you haven't anything to worry about whatever you decide to do.

Ok, as you know they are a ''legitimate company'' you must work for them then?

Taking upfront fees could be for cash flow reasons (if the the company is getting payment at the end of the claim?).

However it could also be a scam.

kevindavis1980. The reason you need to cancel as soon as possible is because you don't know what they're arguing on your behalf (if anything)? Why do you think the mortgage is mis-sold? The vast majority of mortgages are set up in good faith - the claims company could be arguing you gave incorrect information at the time of the sale (which could leave you in trouble!). I don't want to worry you but it's much safer to find a way to manage the debt than to take this path!

Personally I don't think you're foolish for wanting to get a better Pension deal or investigate a Will. They're important things in life.

There is no company called "consumer money matters" authorised by the FSA (nothing coming up with postcode search either). So, if they are telling people they can get better pensions then they are doing so unlawfully.

However, Consumer Money matters are based in the same office as Carrington Carr Home Finance Ltd and we know what rip of merchants they are (2.7% of amount borrowed as a fee plus commission kept). They are tied sales reps Legal & General.

So, its probable that they are acting as introducers to the L&G sales reps and flogging L&G products (which are not that good and easily beaten in all areas by an IFA). Introducers are not allowed to give financial advice. So, if they are going out saying they can get better pensions without doing an analysis first from an FSA regulated adviser, then they are acting in breach of the FSA.

  • i had a phone call from them yesturday and had an appointment this morning tried canceling saying I had to take my daughter to the doctors yet they still turned up and the person that came round phoned her manager who then made me feel awful for wasting her time so ended up doing it and paying a total amount of £178.80 for admin and processing fees also tried to cancel and was literally talked out of it saying that I have nothing to lose as it is no win no fee yet they have already taken the admin and processing fee of my card, Allegedly this will be refunded if my claim is not successful so basically I have nothing to lose
  • How do I stop these people from Consumer Money Matters from phoning, even late into the evening.

3 weeks ago hubby made the mistake of talking to them as they start with 'your bank has provided us with a list of names of people who have a right to claim PPI and your one of those. You are owed thousands of pounds in compensation blah blah blah' - they never actually say your banks name and wait for you to offer up the details. As I deal with the finances he put them on to me, told them I wasn't interested, don't have PPI as we found out to our cost about 20 years ago it wasn't worth the paper it was wrote on for us and our situation. Since then I've been hounded with calls at home and at work (stupid hubby gave them my number), told them that under no circumstances should they phone me at work and then phoned again at home with details of an appointment to come out that I had supposedly made! I had 6 different phone calls from different staff all in one day.

I have clearly stated that I don't wish to deal with them, claim any miss sold PPI and told them 'Remove me from your database and stop calling and from now on I am considering this as harassment. I'm going to hang up the phone now thank you for calling good bye' See I remembered my manners even if they don't!!

I thought all was well and at last they had listened - until tonight when they called again. I've been on their web site, obtained their address and wrote a strongly worded letter to the company. I could have emailed them but there is no way they are getting hold of my email address as well as my telephone number!

Even if this is a legit company there is no way I would deal with them due to their unprofessional manor. They plague on peoples guilt and good manners!!

    Hi
Most of these companies are regulated by the MOJ so you could report them. If they call again tell them that you are going to record the phone call (say this straight away) then tell them to remove all your details from their systems and if they fail to do this you will be taking further action against them for harassment and will be useing the recoring as evidence.
The telephone protection service (TPS) can also help with this type of thing. :)
  • Thanks I'll do that as in all honesty I believe that they won't take any notice of my letter once it's received and start posting out lots of letters etc instead :)

The Ministry of justice is a weak regulator but they do act when the volume of complaints draws attention to a company. So, whilst a letter in isolation will not do much, a whole bunch of people writing complaints to the MoJ will.

  • hi everybody,

I took a loan in 2001 with protection insurance and I paid it off in 2004. Can I still claim for this or is it too long ago?

    Thank you

    Phil
