Well done you, you're very brave ringing Barclays, don't think I'm gonna be much good on the phone, this is the bit of the DMP that I'm not looking forward to, I just hope mine agree as easily as yours did ( probably not)

Joyanne, give it a go. I actually found Barclays to be the best to deal with. Called them up, and straight away they froze my interest and called off the dogs. If only First Direct and MBNA were as reasonable...
Lady on phone was actually really nice - must have sounded upset as she said, "don't worry - it's only money!" That's the kind of thing you need to be reminded of sometimes.

As far as I know you can't lose your home. You could get a charging order attached, but only after getting a CCJ first, and only then if you don't stick to it (Please correct me if I'm wrong!). But that's a long, long way down the road.

My brother works for National Debtline, and i went through all this with him, as it was something i was worried about too. It is pretty much a last resort. Basically, the creditor makes an application for a charging order, and if successful, an interim charging order is granted. Then afterwards, there is a 2nd hearing and the court will decide whether to the charge permanent.
Do not worry about that. Like Ian says, it's a long long way away, and from what my brother said, courts do not like to do it too much.

No, i just did a couple myself as i was getting letters. Bascially out of courtesy really, and only to inform them to leave me alone and deal with PayPlan. (didn't want any more harrassment). You don't have to do it at all if you don't want to!
Stop worrying so much!!;) You are on the right track to getting it sorted!

  • I spoke to most of our creditors on the phone. When I was ready. This didn't mean responding to their first phone calls, when I was feeling a bit all over the place. But, when I had some quiet time, I rang them, explained the situation etc - they were really pleasant about it all. Surprisingly pleasant. TBH, it helped me enormously speaking to them, as it helped me understand their processes and where things were, and it made me less scared of them.

I had one fairly persistent phone call from a DCA, but it wasn't scary. The other DCAs I've dealt with have been fine. I keep them updated and in touch - this seems to keep things calmer.

Now I ring them fairly regularly, every month or so for those that I don't get statements from, get a balance from them and make sure they're not up to any funny business!

I know, I'm sorry *hangs head* I guess it's the fear of the unknown, linked to fear that although we've putting ourselves further into debt all this time, this is now the right thing to do, but it's so massive, and that's scary as well.

I would perhaps ring them and have a chat, although it'd be 'on behalf of Mr BR' as the debts are in his name so most people probably wouldn't speak to me anyway.

  • Hi there everyone :) i'm nearly a year into my dmp now, payments are going up in January thanks to a rise in income so DFD is 2013 now :j

I've got a question and wondered if someone could advise........hubby *should* be getting some back pay in feb/march and we wanted to use this as a f&f for one of our creditors that is being a royal pain in the a$s and not stopping interest........we asked the cccs and they told us we couldn't do that. We had to give the money to them they would then split it between all of them fairly :( i was really hoping to get rid of aqua or b-card as they haven't stopped interest......whereas the others have?! Does anyone know if i can do a f&f with just one or would the cccs then say 'on yer bike' sort it out yourself if we tried to? It was hubby that called and asked and i'm not sure he asked them the right thing tbh so thought i'd ask here too :o

Good luck with everyone just starting out on the dmp route :A

If you do pay off one debt ahead of others then you may find your DMP being cancelled as the whole point of the DMP is to make sure all of your creditors are being treated equally.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
