If you do pay off one debt ahead of others then you may find your DMP being cancelled as the whole point of the DMP is to make sure all of your creditors are being treated equally.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
thank you antonic, i thought this may be the case was hoping to hear otherwise though lol never mind. i suppose if we got rid of a few smaller debts we'd have more to give the larger ones (who will then probably stick the interest right up as we can afford to pay more lol)MORTGAGE BALANCE when we moved Aug 2024, £120,000. Hi DFW321
When I spoke to CCCS recently about F&F, this was about a very small amount of money, they said that if we could get enough to try and pay off a couple of creditors that they could approach the companies for us with f&fs -this would have been our three smallest creditors. My thought was that they probably wouldn't negotiate as such and just accept whatever the creditor offered. I am a bit confused about it all too tbh.
Might be worth ringing them again.0 -
A quick update on my self managed DMP.
AA credit card accepted my offer almost instantly.
Interest reduced to 6.5% apr for now and if i keep to the agreement 0% after 6 months.
AA Personal loan has passed the account over to Blair, Oliver and scott. I phoned them a couple of times requesting Standing order details but they haven't received the file from AA yet. ( Quite pleasant to deal with over the phone though, which is nice because No one can get as hostile as myself when I'm in the mood for a rook.)
Monument accepted instantly with a nice letter. No mention of interest as of yet but will ask again after a couple of months when i've made a few payments on time.
Lloyds, no reply after a month just the odd call from India, which is almost incoherent.
Barclays, started a Telephone blitzkrieg and suddenly stopped when my DMP plan filtered down the ranks.
RBS, no reply as of yet. Phoned once, at the office and was promptly told to jog off. Lady on the other end was nice enough though.
Opus, no reply as of yet.
To be honest the telephone has been very quiet so far. No nasty letters, my blood pressure is 'normal' and I sleep like a log every night.
My only advise to any one thinking of starting a DMP, stop thinking and do it. Go with CSSS if you think your not up to constructing letters and wot not, if your confident enough go down the self help route. I prefer to do it this way so I can keep track on every thing that is happening and respond accordingly.
toodle pipThere are better things in life than worrying about money…like nailing a jelly to a tree for example.0 -

Hmm i don't think they like to rock the boat with the creditors really do they. Once we're 'settled' into a monthly budget & sum we pay and everyone is happy i think they are loathe to give them more .... they asked dh if we would need it for anything in the house but i would rather get rid of a few creditors and move my dfd forward a little even if only a month or so!MORTGAGE BALANCE when we moved Aug 2024, £120,000. I just got a call from First Direct who I have an OD and CC with that are part of the DMP I am currently setting up with CCCS. I was a bit surprised to hear it was them calling as it was my work mobile that rang so I was expecting a business call, but that was just because my personal mobile's battery had died and I have it set to divert to my work mobile.
Anyway, it was a nice friendly chap who called me and just wanted to know my CCCS reference number plus to advise me that my banking and credit card facilities would now be formally withdrawn and I'd be getting a letter soon to confirm that. He also said they'd be happy to work with CCCS and would accept whatever offer of payment CCCS make to them.
So, that's my first scary creditor call out of the way and I'm quite pleased with how it went. Since I'm working from home today I've just celebrated by cutting up my old First Direct credit and debit cards0 -
Might have just had our first call from a creditor.
Wanted to speak to Mr BR, I said he wasn't here (cos he's not) and asked what it was regarding so that I could pass on a message. She said it was a 'personal call' and that she'll try again later. I said that I was his fiancee and yet she was telling me it was a personal call? She said she couldn't give me a message, nor tell me which company she was ringing from due to 'data protection laws'. I said that was silly and she hung up....
I'm guessing it's Capital One as they were the first company we sent a letter to.Our LBM: Dec 2011. DMP started: Jan 2012. Debt at LBM: £41,568

She was protecting MR BR`s right to privacy and staying within the Data Protection Act - how would YOU have felt if she had spoken to Mr BR regarding YOUR debts, if he didnt know anything about them ?.
If she had given you any confidential info, she *could* have lost her job and been prosecuted for said breach of the DPA.BlushingRose wrote: »Might have just had our first call from a creditor.

I don't think it's breaking the DPA if we told she was calling from 'ABC company' though, surely?
I used to work on the phones for a company, I know lots about the data protection act, but I wouldn't have thought it was breaking it to say which company you're calling from. Our LBM: Dec 2011. DMP started: Jan 2012. Debt at LBM: £41,568

Hi Blushing Rose, Anatonic is correct. this is why your fianc! will have given written permission to CCCS to deal with your creditors on his behalf. It is frustrating though, I agree, however if you look at some of the threads on this forum it is surprising how couples successfully hide their debts from each other. It doesn't bode well for their relationships really:(LBM August 2011. DFD somewhere post [STRIKE]2025[/STRIKE]2022
