Best to send them recorded. Extra expense I know, from your restricted DMP budget, when you can least afford it :(
BUT - you will have proof that your creditors have received your letters. (They can sometimes play the innocent and dumb, and deny any knowledge of your correspondence!)
You will then have a record if you need to write/phone them.
Learn to keep all your paperwork, and keep a notebook with a 'log' of all phone calls made/received, times, persons, brief details of what was said.
I bet this is filling you with horror isn't it?
It sounds worse than it is in practice. You will soon get into the swing of being organised with your creditors and paperwork, and it will be second nature :)

  • Hello everyone. Have been avidly reading this thread for 4 weeks now and took a wealth of advice from it. Through an employee support scheme I received a referral to Payplan and have now began my journey on DMP. Ten years to go if all interest and charges are lifted.
Around 17k of debts. I was just about keeping my head above water when my ex husband lost his job and therefore the maintenance ceased. To be fair though, moreover honest, I was really treading a fine line for quite a while. Have a brilliant job, wonderful children but very lonely private life. My credit cards therefore paid for holidays to lift my spirits - what a stupid selfish and pathetic self-indulgent excuse for three holidays per year in the sun!

So now I pay the penalty. However, what a liberating start to this journey this has been. Only 2 weekly shops at Sainsburys. With 2 shops at Lidl in between. Payplan were realistic and I have even saved a little this month. I am 45 but have never saved a penny since starting work at 18 hrs! I have devoured this site, thread by thread!

Today, however, I rang k&c who I had already rang once to explain I was starting my dmp. The first time they were pleasant, this time they were foul! Thank goodness I had knowledge from this forum.

I look forward to continuing with this forum and hope to support people in the future by posting when appropriate. Good luck everyone!

You are indeed, so well done you :)
You deserve to sleep easier tonight knowing that you've been brave and sensible enough to do something about your debts.
But be prepared for it all to take a wee while to settle down. Your creditors will be pooing themselves at first because they will be worried they're not going to get their money.
Quote your CCCS number to them. Once they realise you are serious and committed to repaying your debts, life will settle into a routine.
Most people on here have come to see the good side of a DMP - you learn to live to your budget, you're clearing your debts, you're not wasting heaps of money paying interest etc :)
And best of all you get to join our exclusive DMP support club :rotfl:

    Welcome!
Just a quick 'hello' as got to go soon. You've done superbly well so far!
We start off in panic and blind ignorance, but reading and learning is so powerful. It gives you the chance to take control of your debt, your money, your life and move then forward to a better place.
Lots of help and support here on the DMP thread for all of us :)
