DMP Mutual Support Thread - Part 7

Hey Scared and Alone and Standing Tall. Welcome aboard. It can be stormy seas at first but things soon calm down with only the occasional rogue wave to annoy us!
We've all been there, most of us are still there on the DMP journey somewhere (I've a decade to go), so any questions just fire away.
Best of luck

Hello everyone
new hear and just wanted to say hello.
Been on a DMP for 11 years with CCCS, my debt is down from £44000 to £18000 and I have a lump sum coming to me in Jul 2013 which will clear the lot.
Ive been through it all. Depression, letters, phone calls, penny pinching, SOEs, Changing circumstances (2 kids didnt help lol) so i feel your pain. I can also assure you that it does get easier, there is light at the end of the tunnel (a blinkin long one in my case) and your not alone.
Feel free to pm me if you need for advice or just a chat0 -
Hi Newbies, you have come to the right place. This forum has a wealth of advice and encouragement for the debt free wannabee. I think you have done the hardest part by facing up to the problem and tackling it head on. Yes the next few months will be difficult but things will settle down.
I'm into my fourth month with CCCS now and it hasn't been too bad. One debt has been passed over to a debt collector, and after a bit of haggling all our creditors have all accepted our DMP and the majority have stopped interest and charges, not the Hellifax though!:mad:
Good luck with starting your DMP:DDMP Mutual Support Thread No. 421

Halifax wont stop interest - though they should reduce it to 2% or 3%. If your on a DMP long enough (over 3 years) they will eventually pass it to Blair Oliver and Scott when interest will be stopped.0

We had two bank accounts both with overdrafts, one loan and two CC's with the Hellifax. The loan has already been passed over to BOS. The CC still has late payment charges but they have told me that charges have been stopped on the bank accounts. I plan to phone them regarding the CC.s to see if they will at least stop the late payment charges. It's a pain but on the up side the amount of interest I'm not paying on other cards (we have 14 creditors) has meant that my overall debt is at least coming down each month. I know for some forum members it took at least 6 months or more before that happened so I reckon I'm doing OK
Hey Twitty - hope the F&F is going well. When you're all paid up does that mean you won't post on the forum any more? I hope not cos I think you are brilliant!!DMP Mutual Support Thread No. 421

Who you calling old, m'dears?
Your words are very true though. Look back to anyones first questions, feelings of beig scared etc, then jump forward in time, and see the change!
Godd luck to both of you and all newbies.

Got my first call regarding my DMP tonight. Its incredibly daunting knowing I have to go through all my debts with someone but I know it will work out for the best.
Got around £7k worth of debt and earning a decent wage of £22k so I imagine that my payment period won't last that many years? Anyone got any advice on declaring my outgoings? I obviously don't want to be living on bare bones so will some creative truths be useful here?
ie. I currently pay £23 a week in transport costs for work, however this is because I don't get a full zone 1-4 travelcard (£39 approx). I get a zone 2-4 travelcard and use the bus part of the way, saving myself about £70 a week for an extra 10 minutes journey time a day. Would it be worth saying I get the full travelcard to get to work, therefore giving myself some extra room on the payments?
Similar with dentists, doctors prescriptions etc?
Any advice is appreciated and I'll update tomorrow after my call tonight.0
