good luck scared and alone, once all the paperwork is sent back and you've started the process it feels like a weight has been lifted!

My DMP is going ok. still having trouble with getting a few creditors to stop interest so going to send a letter next week to those companies. Worth another shot to get the debts down surely, because at the moment those particular ones are still going up & up because payments aren't covering the interest never mind any of the debt!

    DFW :)

Keep at 'em kiddo! Be like a dripping tap on stone - you'll wear them down eventually, and hopefully get some sense. :D
And if not, don't forget the fiinacial big boys if you run into trouble-if your creditors are being totaly unreasonable get them on board.

Hey :) This is my fourth month on a DMP and it's going well so far.

I also realise that i don't have as much debt as alot of people on this forum but if i hadn't done something about it when i did i would maybe have headed into a black hole.

    Hi to you
I realised a while ago the same principle holds true - it doesn't matter what you owe, be it £50,000 or £500, it's what that amount truly represents when applied to your own financial circumstances that counts.
So what may be a piffling amount to some, is actually a huge mountain if you're on a low income (fellow NHS drone speaking here ;))
But the real base line is as you stated - doing something about that debt. Controlling it instead of IT controlling you.
The very best of luck to you with your future plans, I'm certain with your insight and planning it will all come right for you.

  • Just got a quick question.

Has anyone left the CCCS or payplan and successfully done their dmp on their own?? Do CCCS give all the payment details you need to set up standing orders to all the creditors so that you can pay them yourself??

Im sure I have read that people have done this, but just want to be sure. So if anyone has done this, could you give me some advice please? We are thinking about going it alone, as we are finding CCCS a bit unhelpful lately and its like a dictatorship!!!! I can really say more than that at this moment in time.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    thanks
LBM: April 2009 - honest debt figure: Secured: £0.00!! (paid back april 2017) unsecured: £53117.48 (roughly) back with CCCS starting again:(
  • Well we are with CCCS and we get a monthly statement from then with all the info on it. Plus we still get statements from the creditors so we are more than aware of what we have agreed to pay each month!

Shame CCCS aren't working out for you - we've been very happy with them.

I wasn't with either of those, was with fee paying DMC (Sterling Green)! started out with them before finding this website! but to be honest at the beginning of my DF journey I was so scared and they were truly helpful! Saw to it that all creditors bar Lloyds  (my bank for over 20 years before embanking on this journey...the most unhelpful creditor!!) stopped interest! started with debt of £64K in September 2007 (so  about this amount).

When I started reading and getting to grips with this site and all the wonderful advice, I left SG and set out on my own, self managing my DMP and haven't looked back, debt now (October) down to just under £19K, :jhelped with claiming back PPI, which have gone towards reducing amount! Looking to finish end of next year or latest early 2013, awaiting some more PPI refund, which will be put towards this!

I asked SG to send me balances and contact details of for each creditor, which they did, after trying to get me to stay (cash cow for them, as they were getting £135 per month and my creditors £645, so how it works, the more money you pay the bigger the percentage to DMC). At the time didn't begrudge them this amount as they got me started and were very helpful and available, but once I felt comfortable with handling my debt I took over, so I'd say go for it and good luck!

Send letters to creditors stating that you are taking over the managing of your DMP, state that you are going to keep the same amount that DMC paid (in my case I told them I would be upping this as I no longer was paying a fee to DMC), also your payment date etc will not change and that you will get in touch with them should your circumstances change. In all instances mine accepted, even Santandar who inititally told me that they wouldn't accept a self-managed DMP....but I insisted on getting their standing order details and just continued to pay them the amount...this was one I paid off when I started getting back my PPI refunds! All payments to be made via Standing Order, under no circumstances get them to say direct debits!

Any questions, please feel free to mail me. Good luck!

First payment to CCCS has been paid on 1/10/2011. All has gone quiet?? One question to ask. We have an old current account with the Halifax. When the DMP started I wrote to them to explain that we would not be using the account and that CCCS has written re SOA/offer money re od. Since this due to their charges we have exceeded our OD limit and the Halifax have been charging us £5.00perday.
Surely once they received the letter re DMP they should have either defaulted us or suspened account.
What should I do now as it seems unfair that they are causing me to become more and more in debt???
  • The lovely Halifax, after accepting offers from CCCS on two accounts, they have continued to charge a bank fee on one and whacked a £135 of charges on the other. When contacted they advise that I should contact them for a repayment plan or contact the CCCS for advise.

They have threaten to pass the debt onto their DCA, fingers crossed they do.

Standard procedure for the bank accounts I'm afraid, Santander & Nationwide did the same to me. Expect around 6 months of charges (though only monthly charges for me, not daily ones!). All you can do is ask them to stop charges.

Can I ask are your other accounts CC as the Halifax have refused the amount of instalment from CCCS. Did they take some time to accept yours or did it happen straight away.

Just starting the process of a DMP with CCCS after months of umming and ahhing. Think i will be visiting this thread quite a bit until i am all set up and paying off the debt. Dreading this next bit of dealing with companies not wanting to agree to stop charging. Got quite a bit of debt with HSBC in many forms so guess that will be a fun one looking at past comments.

Anyway hello and i guess i will get to know you all soon :)
