Thanks Twitty, that's really helpful! I spoke to two of them today because I needed a statement (both loans) and they couldn't have been more helpful. When one of them asked who I was going with, I said CCCS and she said brilliant! I think they are just probably relieved to be getting somewhere with me.
I realise that they won't all be so understanding, but speaking on the phone doesn't bother me too much and the fact is I can't afford to pay, although I am willing to sort things out which should be a startMake £10 a day: £48.76/£1500 -

I was a wuss at first and could never have spoken direct to a creditor.:o Ian always recomends phone, I preferred to write. Lately, I've been more on the blower, and on the whole creditors have been helpful and understanding.
And if they do give you grief, just stay strong and remember you've removed your head from the sand - you are facing up to your problems and sorting your future

Funny thing, living without credit.
It is funny how we live in the credit run society, and to live any other way is now foreign to us...
So a question to those out there who are paying off their own DMPs (and not doing joint ones) - how will you carry on living post DMP?
Oh Ian I'm a bit frightened
Your post really brought it home to me. I was never a wilful mis-spender, just trying to cope with the detrius of life and others on a low income. Always used money off coupons, switched utilities etc. to look after the money there was coming in.
As regulars will know I received a small legacy recently and am currently negotiating full and final offers to creditors.
I always swore (and still do) that credit will be a no-no in the future but it's frightening how quickly your perception of money can change. Still living on a DMP budget, but unlike a few weeks ago when I sunk to my lowest - £22-00 in the world between and annhilation  there is now a bit of a comfort zone.
The boiler died a couple of weeks ago and had to be replaced. Had the money thankfully to pay for a new one;yea! -but how much sweat, tears and sleepless nights if I hadn't that 'cushion?' Recently found myself paying more for loo rolls because they had a pretty pattern on them-what was that about???? Don't,don't,don't want to become blase about money in the future
SO; resolutions -
1) Live on what I earn - it not impossible but vital (done it on a DMP)
2) Save something every month, however small - set up a direct debit on pay day to a savings account
3) Regularly review financial situation and do a regular money 'health check'
4) Try to remember the tough times - do I NEED this or want it? (eg. patterned loo paper)
5) Look at past C/C statements and think about the huge amounts of interest paid (my hard-earned money) that went into a black hole.
6) Remember good times with family and friends, and compare to the pain and fear of the 'lightbulb moment'

It is frightening, I inheirited some money a few years ago that cleared my debts and then found myself here, worse than ever. I am going to print out something similar to what I wrote earlier in the thread (£5 for petrol etc) and keep it in my purse and every time I think about being frivolous I am going to look at it.

Are you with anyone for your DMP? Call them first thing tomorrow morning. Is there anything at all that you can bung on ebay? How is your budgeting going? Are you paying too much on your DMP that you are struggling to meet other expenses?
Sorry for all the questions, I don't know your situation but want to help xMake £10 a day: £48.76/£1500 -
Hi Bella ,give your dmp company a phone ,I really hope it's the free one i.e.cccs,pay plan explain to them your position ,then ask them to review your budget as it sounds like that your present one isn't working don't be afraid to ask them to reduce some of your payments, also make sure you are putting everything down on your expenditure.
Please please try not to panic ( I know easy said) I don't think they will take you off your dmp for one months relapse if you've just started your dmp it's easy to over estimate your i&e .Take carex0 -
Hi Bella1010
Hopefully by now you've contacted your DMP provider - I very much hoping that this is one of the charities such as CCCS or Payplan? You need to communicate with them, the situation isn't the end of the world but does need to be tackled pro-actively.
best of luck SAAC0 -
As it's been quiet on here I assume all is well with everyone!
All quiet on my front, though I did get a letter from Vanquis Bank yesterday asking me to apply for their credit card! Suffice to say I won't be.... at least it made me giggle.DMP mutual support thread No: 2430 -
Same here. Keep getting emails offering me credit cards at 0% interest with no credit checks! :rotfl: Hope no one here is ever tempted - slippery slope and all that. Have a good weekend fellow DMPers:)DeeBee0
