Morning all, does anyone know if I will experience difficulty in changing utility providers now I am on a dmp? do utility providers do credit checks?

I am currently in credit with both gas and elec with british gas, but am paying an astronomical amount monthly for my gas - £100.
I submit meter readings online monthly. I am hand making curtains in an attempt to draught proof this old house, and given the current inclement weather and the fact that it is due to continue, cant see how I can reduce consumption.
    all help greatly appreciated

I haven't changed too much whilst on a DMP. Any cable/satelite (which I'm defo getting rid of!) wasn't a problem, nor mobiles, insurances, etc.

I'm confused...I dont understand how these companies work there seems to be no rhyme or reason what they will or won't accept as an agreeable payment.

Some people seem to have no problem getting, for example MNBA to accept a reduced payment whilst others getting interest added for months.

I know a DMP is informal but a level playing field for all who are struggling would be nice!

It just seems to be luck of the draw who picks up your request, I wont complain to much as all have accepted my DMP payments but it seems unfair on others who are struggling.

    Any thoughts on this?

Happy christmas and new year to all!

    Hi all
Have spent all morning reading through these posts and the thread has been so helpful. We owe loads of unsecured debt and I have done the CCCS Debt remedy and this really looks like a good way forward for us.OH has no idea of the full scale of the debt but I am sure I can explain that this has to be a better way forward for us

I have a few questions which I hope someone can help with

1.I do have the opportunity for overtime at work - some months there would be none but some months could be £500 or more - how does that work? Do I declare that? Can I squirrel it away to pay for emergencies or even a holiday?
2.OH is a mad footy fan. We have always had season tickets - presume that has to go but how would buying tickets be seen at an annual review?
    3. Over the last month or so I have spent a lot of money on online bingo/slots sites. Stupid I know. I had a big win which was withdrawn but then foolishly put a lot of it back. I had some ridiculous thought that I would win big again and it would solve all my problems. I have closed all accounts and have no intention of putting any more in. Will that mean that my bank (who I have a loan with and an overdraft) will refuse the offer? Or will it cause problems with CCCS?

    Any more advice?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi and welcome!

    1. CCCS asked us for payslips then they work on an average wage, ours varies a lot so they let us go for a bit lower than the actual average.
    2. I assume it would have to go under the entertainment section of the budget so it would depend how much and how often?
    3. Doubt it would make any difference to be honest.

Hope this helps. Just make sure you tell CCCS that the overtimes not guaranteed.
  • hi everybody again just to update were i am

egg, halifax and m + s are all fully onboard which is a relief....
Natwest seem happy to have me on a dmp but alone when my account defaults (surely soon?!) opus (previously citi) still havent replied to my second letter but i am encouraged to see somebody above has had some joy from them..

Capital One are impossible.... after my 4th letter enclosing payslip and statement they have replied again stating the statement isnt detailed enough.... surely they cant expect it to show every penny i spend in accordance with my budget plan can they? as i have pointed out to them on 3 occasions every other company hasnt even asked for a statement or payslip..

Funnyingly enough (or not) they are actually my smallest overall debtor (about 1000) i have continued to make my payment as stated but they are now hammering me in charges and the phone calls are still incessant

Any ideas on how to handle them now?

thanks again for all help and a very merry xmas and a happy new year.

It’s a never-ending mystery! Day of the week, what they had for breakfast? – Who knows? However, I do believe being proactive, and communicating with creditors can help to show you are serious in your commitment to the long term.

It’s often the way that the smallest debt causes the most problems! :( Talk to CCCS, keep on at CP1, etc, etc. They were my largest creditor, defaulted me almost immediately and stopped interest. As above – who knows how they work?

And finally it's 'Goodnight From Me' - as per TheTwo Ronnies :) (For those of you old enough to remember! :o )
I wish you and your loved ones a very Happy Christmas. We may be living through tough times now, but at least we are on the way to clearing our debts.:D
I fear for those in the even more difficult times times ahead, who have yet to have their 'light-bulb' moment.
So sending you all a BIG :grouphug: and hope you all have a wonderful Christmas!

I also can earn overtime, but never regular. I've never declared it.
2.OH is a mad footy fan. We have always had season tickets - presume that has to go but how would buying tickets be seen at an annual review?
I have a season ticket too (it's only for a lower league club, but still £300 a year). Again, I've never declared it, and take it out of whatever's left. As mentioned above, this could come out of the entertainment budget, but there are limits to that.
    3. Over the last month or so I have spent a lot of money on online bingo/slots sites. Stupid I know. I had a big win which was withdrawn but then foolishly put a lot of it back. Couldn't say. How much I guess? Towards my lightbulb moment I spent a lot on payday loans (only £200(!)), but committed to pay it off before my DMP started. That didn't really affect the DMP.

    Any more advice?

    Thanks in advance

    See above, and welcome!
