  • Just when you think things are looking up something goes wrong. Computer HD has just died and that means no main computer only a little netbook to use. Normally I'd be reaching for the credit card to buy another one but not this time, which is properly a good thing, first christmas in years whitout the help of a credit card :-)

Hello everyone! :santa2: Hope you all had a lovely Christmas :):):)

    :xmastree:

It's been my third Christmas on a DMP - and I think I actually enjoy the time far more than my pre-DMP "must spend lots of money because it's Christmas" days.

Even though friends and family know I've been cutting back on spending, no one knows about my DMP. We've all simply agreed to not spend silly amounts of money - and I think it's been a relief for all of us. Instead of extravagant gifts, we've exchanged small presents - and we're actually all trying to out do each other to get the best bargain!!!! :rotfl:

My DMP payment this month has brought my outstanding debt beneath £20,000. Still a stonking amount to go but feels "small" compared to where I started at a whopping £45,000. I feel there's a light at the end of the tunnel now.

Very best wishes to everyone for 2011!

  • hi everyone again

has anybody got the link to the letter to send to creditors to stop phone calls. capital one have ignored my original letter on this subject predicatbly

    thanks

I used this letter and the calls stopped instantly:

I am writing in relation to the quantity and frequency of telephone calls that I have received from your company, which I deem to be personally harassing.

I have verbally requested that these stop, but I am still receiving calls.

I now require all further correspondence from your company to be made in writing only.
I have stated verbally, and now in writing that I am awaiting an appointment with CCCS and will notify you in writing of the outcome.

I am of the view that your continued harassment of me by telephone puts you in breach of The Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008, and the Protection from Harassment Act 1997.

If you continue to harass me by telephone, you will also be in breach of the Communications Act (2003) s.127 and I will report you to OFCOM, Trading Standards and The Office of Fair Trading, meaning that you will be liable to a substantial fine.

Please treat this also as a formal complaint, and send me a copy of your company complaints procedure.

Be advised that any further telephone calls from your company will be recorded.

    Yours faithfully

    Hope this helps

  • Latest statement through shows me under £9k to go - not bad as I started at over £40k. Whilst I haven't posted here very often this thread really helped me in the 1st year. I think I've only got about 15 months to go.

slightly off topic, but i just had a good idea given to me, if your phone provider is bt. for a small fee they let you have a second number on your existing phone line- it make a slightly diffrent ringing sound.

i'm thinking of setting one up so i know if it's family, not that i'm planning to ignor any but it would be good to know if it was creditors of family..
  • Thx darwin

Just a thought, but if your phone has the ability, could you not just allocate specific ringtones to family and friends numbers (regular callers) and let voicemail pick up anything else? Doesn't make a great deal of sense giving BT any more of your hard earned cash.

  • Had some good news during the xmas break, CCCS's 3 month review was because we flagged a possibly payment increase in one of our bills and they (CCCS) were just checking that we were coping with the increase, we are as OH has managed to get some extra hours at work.

Also Capital One have stopped interest on the CC, so that is all creditors stopped interest apart from Tesco, who I will be written to in the next few days to see if they may stop or at least reduce it, this is the one that is the biggest problem as it seems to hardly be going down.

  • I know just how you feel. Its a great feeling when you dip under, what is a scary amount. I started off at £72K debt in late 2008..and just dipped under £49k... In the cold light of the morning, it still makes me feel hyper wobbly..but, I know I can do it and, I will get there..

Well done, 'Onwards and upwards...or is that downwards !!!'..
