  • I booked my flights for Nov 16 coming back Nov 20. I've now booked a room for two at the Park Central for just £520 for four nights. It looks like a really nice hotel with a good mid-town location. I saw it on Expedia first for £563 but when I went to their own site I got it for £520. Check it out at https://www.parkcentralny.com

In total it's cost us £840 for flights and decent accomodation in NY! :T Amazing! We went there in March and both just fell head over heels in love with the place, hence our return visit.

I have two tips for fellow travellers: use the subway! Buy a 7 day card on your first day even if you're only out there for 4 or 5 days coz you can easily get your monies worth out of it. And secondly, when you 'do' the Empire State (and you must, it's NY law!) pay the extra $6 to get an audio guide from Tony the Cabbie. It's the best $6 I spent on our whole holiday. He tells you exactly what you're looking at from each side of the viewing platform. It's really fascinating stuff. Probably not worth it if you go up at night tho! In March we did it by day and by night - magic!

One more thing - the dates we're chose are still coming up at that bargain price. Maybe I'll see y'all on the flight!!!

I've discovered (after booking through ebookers for £171!) that Continental Airlines at www.continental.com/ have direct £160 return flights to New York (Newark - 16 miles from central Manhattan) from Gatwick with easy availability and choice of flights!

That's why I started this thread yesterday at 13:25.

For those who don't know, direct trains go from Newark to Penn Station in New York for around $16.

This was in 2003 so the price may have gone up a little.

Does anyone know which terminal at Gatwick that Delta will use for these flights to JFK? The reason I ask is that some carparks only serve either the north or south terminals, not both apparently.

    Delta use the north Terminal.

If you do find yourself being dropped off at the south terminal then you can get the shuttle between the 2 terminals which is quick and of course free!

For those who don't know (or are too lazy to look)

This thread has a host of ideas on Hotels in New York.

There are countless others, please SEARCH for the threads.

You can use Priceline or Hotwire to get cheap deals, I wrote this guide as to how to do it.

This web-page has useful info on cheap hotels in the area of New York, Viz Newark and Secaucus and also how to get to NYC from Newark Liberty airport.

I have stayed in all the options in Jersey City through priceline, maximum I've paid is $77 per night per room.

Review of the Hyatt Jersey City

Map with Priceline hotels won in New York. Zoom in and hover the mouse over an icon to see its name. Then click on the icon for links to Hotel review, recent wins etc.

I've recently stayed at the Crowne Plaza in Secaucus, very nice hotel and not too bad to get to NYC.

Here's my review of the place

This link has info on ALL the New York Airports

I managed to get Delta £160 flights that weren't available on the website by ringing their reservations number in the UK, telling them the flights I wanted for £160 and that I couldn't get their website to work (not entirely untrue). Might be worth a go: 0845 6000 950: they were very accommodating.

Having said that, they misspelt the names on the e-tickets; rang up this morning to get them to change it and they were REALLY rude. If anyone speaks to "Neville" - say goodbye from me.

Also: no free booze on Delta it seems! Dry, in more ways than one. Oh well - probably for the best. £160 flights woo hoo!
  • i'm getting really p**ed off! keep entering all the information, putting in my credit details, etc and selecting the seats, then it says the booking session has timed out. Have tried having 2 windows open at once. Don't know what on earth i'm doing wrong but thinking of giving up.
Even tried the continental instead but can't get the same fares for the same date. ****LOUD SCREAM!*****

I'm thinking of going to a hostel as it is cheaper than a hotel room and I get to meet people who are either backpacking or going round the world!

What hostel should I go for? I know where to look.
    Waddle you do eh?
