All Things New York & £150 Flight Deals MERGED

Options
Looking to take my fiancee away(first break without the baby) to NY anytime in the next few months for a 4 night wk/end break, but i havn't a clue where to stay.

Where's the best area to stay in and what to do?

Price wise...... well obviously looking for as cheap as possible but don't want to stay in a dive so wouldn't mind paying more if the hotel was nice.

Flying from Glasgow

Thanks in advance

I went 3 months after having my son as a treat and we paid around £320 for a 3 night break in a hotel straight oppossite madison square gardens..I found the holiday on the internet..You can walk to times square from there and also the subway is straight opposite. It was a huge hotel...The rooms were ok..nothing fancy and were room only.....Pensilyvania hotel is the name...It is right next to Macys so it's a great location....We went everywhere on the subway or onfoot from the hotel....
  • can't give you advice on the flights or accom but check these places out when you get there

http://thedeadpoet.com/ --- first bar i wandered into in manhattan, good atmosphere, small, good booze. there's something mgical about this place, i kid you not, once i had crossed the threshold into this bar my life really changed.

P D O'Hurley's --- 174 W. 72nd St. (between Columbus & Broadway) -- this bar is owned by an uncle of a close friend of mine.

I recently booked a friend with best western. Have no idea what they are like, but their prices were competetive and they had plenty

    I agree with Pudding.....
I went to NY in early April, and stayed in the Pennsylvania. Its great... next to Macy's and across from Penn station. So get a subway metrocard, and get the subway to anywhere from across from the hotel.
You may read some horror stories on reviews about this hotel, but the rooms are adequate and clean. I emailed the hotel before i went and brought this up, they sent a nice email back saying they will make sure i get a 'good' room..... They do move you into other rooms without much fuss if you complain!! (i've read).
As for getting there.... cant help with the cheapest flights, i booked via expedia too, flew American Airlines.

    Cheers,

    Simon

    Look at this thread

You're going at an expensive time, flights may cost anything from £400 upwards

If you're canny enough you could try Priceline

If you do, research both this site and here

Just do a lot of searching on the net...I went last February and last June and I stayed at the Pennsylvania both times and I only paid around £320 for 3 nights both times...Shop around! Good Luck and have a great time..I think I booked one with ebookers I can't remember..
