Am thinking of going with either Virgin or American Airlines. Both around £300 per person. Are these the amounts that I pay or are there taxes or other charges usually added onto these amounts?

Well that's what you need to check carefully. It should be totally clear when you get receive a quote - it should say including or excluding taxes and fees and airlines disclose the final fee at different stages of the booking process.

For the time of year you're looking at, £300 including all taxes seems a reasonable price to me.

If it's from Expedia etc. then I think it's the price you pay. At some point before it gets to the "point of no return" in the booking process the breakdown of taxes, charges etc should be shown.

Have just checked and it appears that American Airlines have other charges added onto fare of approx £300 but Virgin would appear to be inclusive. Will definitely be flying mid week as this does work out cheaper. Now just need to find a quiet hotel.
  • Thanks. I,m hoping to go to New York to watch my daughter run in the New York Marathon. Could anyone recommend a place to stay, fairly central but fairly cheap and .clean.A family room would be great which sleeps 3

I wish you luck at one of the most busiest times of the year in New York.

Look into staying over the Hudson in Jersey city, though a room for 3 could be a problem.

I did this race in 2000 so if you want tips on transport etc let me know.

The low price operator www.flyglobespan.com yesterday announced that from late 2007 they will be flying a daily service from Liverpool to New York (Newark).

Given that some of Globespans fares are very good indeed, its good news.
