The only details I have on the Solcitior are they are based in Bristol - our documents went over to them and then my Solcitior was advised that they were not working for a "Mr Brown"

You mean that they just chose A N Other solicitor from the phone book and gave you his name?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

inforeq and running horse - either give it a rest or go get a room! Or go back to school - as this seems to have sunk to that level.

No, IPG actually wrote to my Solcitior on behalf of "Mr Brown" stating that we had accepted his offer and his Solicitors name etc was ..... My solicitor sent over our "pack", it sat in "Mr Browns" Solicitors office for a couple of weeks then they contacted mine to say they dont have a client by that name/address etc, I have asked my Solicitior for this company name but it comes under code of ethics or something like that. I was expecting a large bill to plop on the door-mat when it all went pear shaped but the Solicitor hasnt charged me anything (as yet), she just says that all the paperwork is now done for when the property is sold (again).

IPG effectively prepared a memorandum of sale as would any high street estate agent. You would be entitled to see this from your solicitor so you could very easily provide details of the other party solicitor if you so chose to do so. You may of course have your own reasons for not chosing to do so.

What it says - you can get the info - its up to you whether you choose to share it or not of course.

If the solicitor is claiming they were not instructed by Mr Brown the info is of dubious value anyway

I am not too sure what you are insinuating on the last post but the info is of no use to anyone as the Solcitiors firm had never been instructed by "Mr Brown".

I presume if I had pressed the issue with my Solicitor she would have given me the info, but I am sure that this is probably covered by some sort of legislation - regardless it makes no difference what the other firm is called and is of no consequence to me or anyone else.

It isn't covered by any sort of legislation I know of, but I agree that it's unlikely to be of any help to the Police.

I probably got the wrong end of the stick about the legislation, all that I was told was that it was sent to Bristol.
