Sorry to say my "No Cold Callers" isn't working!

Such signs are obnoxious and stupid.
I always take a rest at pavement tables with silly notes on them until chased away by the cafe owners. And I often pop in to premises with 'private' toilets that are publically protected with shoddy paper notices even when nature is not calling.0 -
Oh dear, fancy me being obnoxious and stupid putting a sign up to tell unwanted callers not to knock - in my own home?! Silly me!Zobo :A0

Its also obnoxious when one gets disturbed at the door only to find a person trying to give you hard sell even when you put a "stupid" sign up issued to you by Trading Standards
Yes its very stupid indeed0 -
I just say no thank you and shut the door, dont even give them a chance to speak you can spot them a mile off0

I am shocked that people actualy feel that it is justifiable for a door to door salesmen to knock even when faced with a note that asks them not to! I am never rude to sales people but I hate cold callers more than anything - even more than chuggers (charity muggers). I used to sell double glazing over the phone and whilst this has taught me not to be rude to the cold caller, I certainly do not feel that they have a right to disturb my peace in my own home to sell me something I do not need often through lies or deception.
When I sold double glazing 10 plus years ago, we were taught to lie. We quoted special offers, discounts etc that did not exist. I am sure this is now illegal but I am also sure that people still use similar, although slightly dare I say evolved, techniques. My particular favourite being 'I am from X supplier, and I've come to check your meter'.
If I ask someone (politely through the MSE notice on my door) not to do something then I expect them to comply. As people have said here, often the cold caller will not take a simple no for an answer. When I have said 'no thank you, I'm not interested' I've had a hand on the door, a foot in the door, a 'so your not interested in saving money' to which I just said no thank you followed by 'do you have so much money you can just throw it away?' I find 90% of cold callers (particularly gas/elec suppliers) to be rude, obnoxious and sometimes down right threatening. One even asked my 25 yr old housemate if his mum and dad were in!House saving Targets:

Cold callers annoy the hell out of me. They're usually rude and try to tell me how much electric/gas im paying when they have no flipping idea what appliances etc i use a day.
I had one who even opened my meter cupboard (which is located outside my front door). I genuinely thought he was from my leccy company until he started his sells pitch. I mean !!!!!!, what gives him the right to open my meter cupboard and start pressing buttons to get info from it?
Very recently I had another salesman on my door who refused to listen to my no thankyous. It got to the point he said he would call later and I said no. He stood there for about 3 mins constantly repeating the words " i'll call back later". In the end I told him I would call the police for harrassment. Okay so I probably couldnt do him for harrassment but it made me feel better to say it, and did the job of making him leave. His parting shot were the words" I'll try again later this evening"
I also have my phone registered for that no cold caller service thingy, but the companys just get around it now by using call centres abroad. I get international call come up when it rings and 99/100 times its a cold caller. I cant even not answer it though as I have had reputable people call me using an international number that I have needed to talk to.
There should be a law against cold callers imo. I have yet to meet someone who isnt rude and arrogant. I also have yet to hear a cold caller on the phone who isnt speaking from a script.
I didnt realise there was a sign you could get for the door/window. I'd be greatful if someone could give me a link please0 -
I forgot about the talktalk muppets who came round last week. I had the afternoon off on the Tuesday and 2 of them turned up at the door just after lunch. I got rid of them super quick by telling them that talktalk were on our black list of suppliers and we would never use them. They went off none too happy. Well, they only turned up again on the Wednesday evening. They got the "I told you last time and I'll tell you again" routine.0
