I realise that but many people dont want to be bothered shopping either.

Many of us can make our own minds up, a simply 'no' should suffice I got one 2 weeks back he wouldn't let it go, 5-6 minutes later he dropped it, I sometimes wonder if only message they get is P off, yes its rude but one can only take some much of a conversation which isn't always welcome by the shopper

i found dealing with shoppers a lot more easier than dealing door to door

purley because "most " shoppers have some time to spend or stood round looking at my signs/flyers so it was easier to grab there attention also in store when people see one shopper signing up forn something they tend to want to be a part of it

where as door to door you dont get that option and people tended to be judgmental and not even bother to listen to what you were saying

I'm sorry you don't seem to get my point - if I want to buy something - I will seek it myself.. it's like going into a shop and making a purchase - easy! You don't get supermarkets, white goods stores or furniture stores coming round your house to see, 'just in case', if you may have forgot something or that they can offer you a better deal! If I want something, I will go directly myself. Simple. Don't need to be a clairvoyant, even very clever, I have my computer and I am quite capable of finding deals myself. End of story. I'm in my own house and I don't want to be pestered by salesmen, even if who they're working for tell them to tell me they are offering the 'best deal in the world'! If the deal's there, I can find it myself, I cant imaging I'm not losing out too much just because I choose to find deals myself. If I am, my loss eh?

It only takes five seconds to read a sign saying people dont want their door knocked.

    Who is being ruder?
    Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently! ;)

Being disabled any extra movement I really don't have to do are welcomed.

Yet they still ignore my sticker on the door.

Great - and so do the energy providers. The supermarket doesn't come round to my house and tell me that I have bought the most expensive baked beans before even knowing where I bought them from.

Yes, a television is in my home, but I don't have to answer the door to it, speak to it and if I so choose to, I can turn it off!!:rotfl:

I wish. The sales idiots we get round our way will not take no for an answer and even when you say that you aren't interested in a polite way will not leave. More often than not I end up having to threaten them with calling the police out to get them to go. At the end of the day, it's the acts of the few idiots that give door to door sales muppets a bad name.

As a side note, after the last sales idiot from scottish power refused to leave until I got my phone out and started to dial 999, I've had a chat with a friend who's on the local neighbourhood committee and he's bringing up a suggestion that the estate is turned into a no cold caller zone. Every indication shows that this will get passed so the actions of the few sales idiots will most definitely ruin it for everybody else.

legally they cant do that and even if you did call the police they wouldn't do anything either as its not illegall to sell door to door

The neighbourhood committee can turn the estate into a No Cold Caller Zone. They are made up of local residents, the local council, Age UK and the local police. This is the forum for this to happen.

In terms of the police coming out for door to door sales idiots, it's all to do with the refusal to leave, not the door to door selling. This page has some info about a scheme that was set up near us, http://www.dorset.police.uk/default.aspx?page=3751
To quote from this page “In the event that a resident asks a cold caller to leave and they refuse, they should dial 999.”
Also, note that it mentions that the scheme was set up by the local council TS department and the police after consulting with residents.
