We can recommend somebody but you need to get you property back. I suggest a registered/recorded letter to 1. Address you sent goods to and 2 registered company address politely saying the police will be informed if you do not receive item in 5 working days of letter receipt. You could even enclose a SAE to the address you sent the goods. If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.0

Hi belo9moons and all others - did you ever get your flash drive back?
I have sent my hard drive to fields data recovery and had a similar experience to everyone else - over inflated quote and when I said I didn't want them to proceed I was told they would send my drive back in 2 weeks with royal mail - I don't think this will happen based on other's experiences and I suspect the company will blame 'the christmas post'
I would like to travel up to get the drive, but I can't do it at the mo due to the distance and work and family commitments. They have offered DHL courier for £25, which I would pay but only if I know they will actually return the drive, I'm also worried that once I give my card details, they will take unauthorised payments.... I was considering a courier of my own to collect the drive.
I just wondered if you had a any advice based on what happened to you - or if anyone else out there can offer some advice.
If there are people out there who have had their drives returned - how did you get them back? Has anyone used their £25 DHL service?
I feel stupid and very worried I'll never see my drive again....0 -
I used Fields Data Recovery recently in an attempt to get data off a hard disk that wouldn't boot. I'd previously had a good (very good) experience with them in 2014, when they recovered all the data off a USB drive for a lot less than I thought, and a lot less than they initially estimated. So far so good. Then I sent them my 250G Seagate drive, which I thought was damaged – I couldn't boot my Mac from it. They replied quite promptly saying they could recover 95% of the files, but quoted me a price of £425 plus VAT, i.e. over £500. That was too much for the data, so I asked them to return the drive, which they did. (No money changed hands...no recovery, no fee, and I have no complaints there as there was no charge for the return.) Now the problem: I wanted to see what was on the second hard drive (not a boot drive) I had on the Mac, so I bought for £19.99 a Inateck portal HDD enclosure which I used to check that drive by attaching it to a different machine. Then on the desperate off chance I put in my "damaged" disk and… it read it all, no problem. In fact, there was no problem with the drive – it must be a problem with the desktop's motherboard or RAM. So Fields asked me for over £500 to gain access to the data on an undamaged drive! As you may imagine, this leaves a somewhat nasty taste in the mouth.0

unbelievable quote but more unbelievable that you did not have a backup of all your data"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0

Couldn't agree more, dips...my old computer, but being used by my daughter and her boyfriend!0

The place I use charges around £500 for 30GB but what they will do is give you a list of what files they believe they can recover before you decide to go ahead with it.
Proper data recovery isn't cheap. Many of the software solutions just make things even less recoverable. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

I used them once for my company and they were a nightmare! Since then I used Datlabs for any data recovery and they're always fantastic!0

I've sent a drive off to Fields Data Recovery, been quoted thousands of pounds, declined to proceed, but now they're making it impossible for me to get the drive back...
I see people have experienced problems with this - can anyone update to say if/how they got their property returned? Thinking of driving to Cardiff tomorow to try and get it but they said "it won't be ready for a few days as we have to un-do the work we've done" whatever that means... Thanks0 -
^^ Well I would tell them
"you have <insert drive time to Cardiff here> to undo this fictional work because im setting off now"
Or you could let them string you along for weeks and weeks until they "post it" and it mysteriously gets lost in the post0
