Martin, as far as I was aware the only Orange tariff that had free 0800 calls was the Data Tariff. Remember The Links free Sony 610 for tenner a month was on that tariff.

I have two other anytime tariffs 60 and 200, niether of which have free 0800 nor inclusive 0845/087.., so I agree with Smartasss.

Maybe Orange have different arrangements for new customers, depending on targets and sweeteners reqd. to attain them? or is there a difference between "talk..
    ". and "anytime" Another puzzle.
    Moi....? ;)

First Telecom using Orange Mobile Network.

I have used First Telecom for many years now. Ever since Orange allowed freephone access I have used the normal First Telecom access numbers to make cheap calls. My particular circumstances were Orange Everyday 50 for calls 1900hrs to 0700hrs, all weekend and bank holidays. First Telecom prepay account for daytime landline and international calls (ask for international preference to save you even more) £20.00 Plus vat £23.50 will open an account. You can nominate your mobile phone number to be automatically reconised by First Telecom. This will save you having to enter your account number and password each time. The last free access number I used was 0808 188 5000. Use this number to top up or create a new account (you don't have to call the 0845 number which will cost you) just press ** on your telephone keypad to be connected to a customer service agent. What else can I say, Oh yes! Just dial 1639 from your home phone to access First Telecom. WHAT EVER YOU DO, DON'T USE FIRST TELECOM FROM A PAYPHONE IT WILL COST YOU. Only use a payphone if you must to top up your account.

If you choose to use First Telecom then you could also try to get extra free credit added to your account by quoting 1098173 and saying you were reconmended by a friend (ME). I don't know if this is still applicable or not.

Summary: If your main calls are to landlines or international then this is a good one to use.

Orange charge for 0800 on their no line rental option (OVP Virgin) apart from ceratin listed charity numbers.

When I took the YP 120 deal in Dec - I emailed them the same question and got the following reply

exceptions as some personal numbers are prefixed by 0870.

OK let me clarify this. I've just been talking to Orange to discuss why SA would've been having differences.

Right first of all, as noted in the article we're talking Orange contract users on Orange tariffs (ie Orange Value Plan users are on other networks tarfifs and are not included)

If you are on the Your Plan - which is most Orange contract plans then all 0800 numbers are free - this includes the anytime tariff.

There is an exception which is the fat 0800 data calls are charges as standard calls - I think that may be the confusion, but that does not impact the override issue.

As to historic packages anyone still on the Everyday 50 tariff will find freephone calls are part of the inclusive minutes, but not free outside that. They weren't able to immeidaltely clarify the issue for other historic tariffs, but that will come.

On Orange PAYG as the article states, calling freephone numbers aren't free.

I will add a little clarification to the main article (without trying to overconfuse!)

Martin, Im on the Everday 50 tariff and use my phone throughout the day to call freephone numbers , which are free and not just when they are part of my inclusive minutes.
I think all older tariffs on Orange have 0800 numbers free at all times(could be wrong on this though!)

Telco also offer a similar 0800 overide service which works on orange contract (i'm on the old everyday 50 like rjohnmatt). Used 1st telecom number before that but the number kept getting barred. The Telco number hasn't changed in the 2 years I've been using it.

    Thanks

    Hi Martin.

I'm on Everday 50 and I can access freephone numbers free of charge all day every day.

Regularly use an 0800 number during peak-time (i.e. outside my the time slot when I can use my free-minutes) to access the Telco overide number.

    Thanks

Aw, shucks Martin, I am just an old 'silver surfer' and I can't understand all the details. I am trying to find out how I can benefit from this amazing topic. I have a T-Mobile account with an Everyone 50 price plan, and I have got a little Nokia phone. Please can somebody tell me how to do the magic?
Also, I will be in France soon for a fortnight, so are there any different tricks to know for being abroad?
Somebody recently said that it is worth my while to buy a 'chip' once I am in France to put in my phone while I am abroad, and then obtain a pay-as-you-go card just for French use. Another pal has said that it is worth buying a cheap French pay-as-you-go phone for about £50. PLEASE can somebody tell me my best course of action. Gratefully yours, Margi xx ???

Vinnyboy - do you have the special one-tel orange override number or just the normal one?
