Since writing the article - someone's already spotted another provider that offers the service. Dinesh notes Swiftnet Limited on (contact: 0800 6191 999) do a similar service. I haven't yet checked it out in detail yet, but it looks a good alternative to one tel.

It's national call charges are a similar price, though its more expensive for local. Its calls to mobiles are a little cheaper and a lower call connect fee. Though of course onward dialling through Telestunt on top of either is a cheaper bet.

    Martin

(any feedback or info on other services greatly received)

Thanks Martin... & apologies for prev comments.

Incidentally, as mentioned, i use Swiftnet & if u call that 0800 number I gave & u mentioned [see above Martin post] there is NO connection overide charge for using 0800 from an Orange Mobile or indeed using their local access number [for non-orange mobiles].... So, for example, from my wife's vodafone mobile she calls 020 numbers to overide [these calls incl in Free inclusive minutes] & then makes International &/or UK Mobile calls at Swiftnet rates.. (which can be negotiated with that Swiftnet 'agent'- see above) Works well for us.

Sorry to go on a bit... I should take a 'concise' English writing course

One of the 'flaws' in the article may be the premise that Orange contract phones allow 0800 numbers to be dialled free .

    Which contracts allow this?

The any network anytime plans charge 10p/min for 0800 numbers (these aren't part of the inclusive allowance).

Which exact tariff are you on - as a personal note, im on the same tariff and my 0800 calls are all free. If anyone else was asking this i'd be blowing it off - but you're a mobile man. I know 0870's mightn't be, but are you sure. I'm wondering what tariff you're on exactly? Can you call them up and ask?

I phoned them (free on 150!).

    I have Talk Time 120.

    0800, 0845, 0870 are 10p/min. Can't be used as part of the 120 minutes.

You could verify this by ringing their sales inquiry line, (anonymously), 0800 801080, and asking about the tariff, and the charges for ringing 'special numbers like 0800, 0500, 0845, 0870.
