    Hi Cheery

I'm back off my hols. Germany was great.

It was me that is after a sewing machine. I do have one at the moment but it is a mini-sewing machine that I bought in Woolworths (RIP) for £4 ages ago. It works exactly like a proper machine but is made of plastic and small.

It does work ok but it isn't easy to get a good straight line and it only has one stitch (no zig zag or even way to vary size of stitch). I want to do some quiliting and more sewing stuff and I need a better machine that I sew more accurately with.

Do you think Lidl will still have those machines?? I'm fed up with losing out on ebay!

There is a lidl near my office and also one down the road from me so I could check them out tomorrow.

    Good news on your PhD-ing.

Have you considered signing up for a job with the census? I've signed up and they have all sorts of jobs but I'm intending to get one that will fit in around my job around the time of the actual census next year.

I am hoping to work for the electoral people this month (basically knocking on doors of people who haven't signed their forms and sent them back) and presume the work is similar to that.

I've been meaning to enquire for ages about the WI thing =- are you a member or do they have some kind of cafe that you go to???
I've got my own flat :j:j

Now I have to pay the bills

And feed my interiors addiction ;)

Welcome back Makeup! :j Sounds like you had a lovely time :j Where abouts did you go?

Why not check out Lidl? Someone else might have some more news!

OOh, that census work sounds interesting! I'm not actually after another job though - I was just pondering whether I should do the hours that come with the casual one I've already got - and I've decided not to. I might go back next term, we'll see. By then though, the PhD will be finished, and there's the possibility of more hours at my main job, which I love, so I'd take those instead. But thanks for the suggestion, sounds really interesting! :T

WI - I'm not a member, but the selling wing of the WI (Country Markets) runs a little cafe and stall in a scout hut round the corner each Saturday morning :T We go for tea and marvellous cakes, but they also sell jam, plants, crafts, and various fruit and veg at this time of year too :j It's great!

Off up to my little attic now to watch the second half of Pride and Prejudice (didn't quite make it to the end yesterday!) and do a little sewing :j Should set me up nicely for the week! Must find something to wear in the morning to work too <yawn> Lunch is already made to take with me :T

(however, we've just run out of milk! No tea! Might hve to pop to the shop in a bit - but I'm struggling to believe it's already dark!! At 8pm!!)

:rotfl: It's not half as exciting as it sounds :rotfl:

Although I must confess the night I first met Mr Daffs, me and a friend had been invited back here by someone else for a drink or several, we had a bit of a tour, and we did decide it would be very cheery to live in :) Took me 6 weeks before I was spending most of my time here, and another 2 years to move in :rotfl: It's not big, just a bit wonky and falling down, and there's two sets of stairs up to two different attic-level bits (one of which is the bed - on its own mezzanine thing under the skylight), so it feels bigger and more adventurous than it is :rotfl:

Thanks for that honeybear, I've been despairing recently about all the 'things' that need doing - wallpaper replacing in the living room from when there was a crack in the wall, front door replacing, bedroom ceiling plastering, giant messes tidied up everywhere - and you just reminded me that it *is* very cheery indeed living here after all :T :j :D

Pride and prejudice watched :T Not much sewing done, although I did contemplate some, does that count?? :rotfl: Need a mini project to take with me on the train to work tomorrow - not sure about starting anything new though - I've got a half-embroidered cushion cover that the charity shop were throwing away - might finish that off :j Might even do as a Christmas present for someone! Or if not - it's red, so it'll go with all the other red things in the living room :rotfl:

Speaking of my cheery house, thought I'd post a cheery picture of my living room, more to remind myself how cheery it is than anything else :rotfl:

i agree, i love the sound of your house, i've always wanted a craft room in the attic!
can i ask something? how much time did you spend at your lottie each week would you say and how big was it?
well done for finishing your chapter, once you're on a roll it will all speed up (fingers crossed) and you'll get the rest done in no time. Your saturdays sound similar to what we used to do when we moved upto Yorkshire. We'd all meet in one of two churchs and have coffee and a cake, we did it for the entire time we lived there and used to meet up with my grandma, great aunt, aunt and anyone else who was in town. Wish we had something like that round here.
