Sorry, that was an enormous old rant from me last night! I was getting myself all in a muddle :rotfl:

There's 2 of us too - although I only work 2 days, and Mr Daffs does bits here and there, so there is usually someone here most days during the day too. We have gas central heating, and cooker, but nowt else. But we can't get hot water without putting the heating on  so it goes on for a couple of hours a week for a bath sometimes even throughout the summer :o Shower is electric though.

Got someone to ring up today and investigate, so I'll see what happens.

    PhD first though! :T

    Or rather not :rotfl:

I HAVE done two useful things this morning though:

    (1) emailed note taking job to say I can't take on any hours this term, but will be available next term, and they can contact me if they're stuck at short notice (I can always say no)

    (2) switched gas and electric to Ovo's 100% green tariff :T

    Now, where's that PhD...

well done for making your decision, it's not easy when you have so many options open to you.
I've got to sort out house insurance sort of this weekend and i just hate doing that.

Ooh, good luck LT! Tedious I'm sure, but oddly satisfying when it's done :T

I'm on a bit of a mission with our bills at the minute - I just pay a fixed amount, would like to contribute more now I've got a 'proper' paying job, but I'm not paying half of what we pay at the minute! :rotfl: In fact, I have absolutely no idea what we pay at the minute . Mr Daffs is a terror for not opening post for years, not knowing what half of the direct debits coming out of the banks are :rotfl: so it's all in a big mess. Nothing's late though, everything's up to date, but some things are just far more than they need to be!

Just gone with the 'average' usage for gas/electric after talking to Ovo. Obviously they'll just charge us for what we actually use. But calculated on the basis of our house, they've said £944 (for gas AND electric) - works out at £78 a month. Doesn't sound hugely cheap to me, but considering that (a) we're not sure what our actual usage is, (b) we're paying over £160 a month at the minute  (c) we'll get 3% interest on whatever credit we end up building up, and (d) it's a 100% green tariff, it's not too bad considering!

Phone bills are next on the chopping list. I pay £20 a month for an all singing all dancing sim only tariff with O2. 600 minutes and more texts than I can use - changed over a year ago, so might be able to play changing that soon. Mr Daffs however has been with Orange for about 20 years :rotfl: and pays £35 a month for not even half of what I get - got to be able to do something about that one! Also we very rarely use the land line phone, and I think it's separate to the internet - got to be able to do something about that fairly easily too! :T

After that it'll be house insurance and all manner of sundry extra things that I probably don't even know exist yet.

(already sorted the council tax, and go £1700 refund  :rotfl:)

THEN I might consider looking at the mortgage, which as far as I know is only £285 a month and only has 4 years left to run

And once all that's sorted, I'll start paying half rather than my fixed amount! :rotfl:

I'm on O2 simplicity too - I just bought myself the cheapest PAYG phone at the beginning :) Mr Daffs could do with a new phone anyway, his is ancient and I can barely hear him on it sometimes! So might just invest in a new one, we'll see.

Have a nice cuppa! :coffee: No tea for my just yet, I'm PhD-ing. Well, actually, I'm hanging around on the forum aren't I :o :rotfl: Oops. Must rectify that - and then tea later! :rotfl:

What was it like then Happy? Doesn't sound like a 'fun' film! :rotfl:

Guess what I just did??? The first day of Shred Level 3!!! :j  :j

Actually, I quite enjoyed it  :rotfl: Felt easier than level 2 :rotfl: But maybe because that's because I was sticking with the easier woman, I've had a few days off to 'rest', and maybe I'm actually getting a bit stronger! :rotfl:

Mustn't have been working hard enough anyway, because I spent most of the time thinking about how absolutely filthy the kitchen carpet is when your nose gets that close to it :o :rotfl :rotfl:

PhD chapter not *quite* finished, but I *am* pleased with progress! :j :j Anyway, Mr Daffs isn't home yet, so I might sneak upstairs and do another little bit on it. Just one more playing of the CD (40 mins) should be enough to get me to the stage where I know exactly what to do to finish it off tomorrow :j

Then some tea! I've boiled up some brown lentils (well, heated to boiling then turned the gas off and just abandoned them for several hours - probably be cooked by now!). Might bung in the leftover pizza topping (tomato/oregano), and some mushrooms and soy, and have it with a bit of bulgar wheat :D Now there's healthy! :D

Going to get on the scales in Boots tomorrow morning... I know I was posting weighings and measurings as I was Shredding on here, but then I stopped and ate enormous amounts of cake, and got really cross because I ended up weighing more than when I started! :o Been quite careful this week though, and back to Shredding now, so I'll weigh and measure tomorrow and update on here whatever the results
  • Wow well done daffy your culinary skills make me look at you awe :-) good luck on the Reading :-) happy weekend and happy shredding. Look forward to seeing your boots weigh in :-) x
