Grand thanks, although tired! Landed up not coming home from work last night and instead stopping in Doncaster with Mr Daffs, which meant NO internet access (and no clean pants! :rotfl:) Got lots of transcribing done though, and only 20 mins on the train to work this morning too!
Just a quick one cos dashing back out to booze club. Going to sort out gas and electric bills tonight - gas bill still has Mr Daff's ex-ex-girlfriend's name on it (she moved out, ooh, must have been around 1992?). Our electric DD was £137 a month   - I've done them accurate readings for the last 3 months and apparently we've used £93 over 3 months (sounds more like it!) so they've generously adjusted our DD to 'only' £87 a month. Hmm. So they're getting ditched.
Similarly, gas DD was £78 a month (adjusted from £156 after I stomped feet last time) - apparently we've used £68 over the last 3 months - they're not adjusting the amount at all! So that, coupled with the no-heating-for-10-weeks-over-the-coldest-winter-for-30-years saga means they're getting ditched too!
Martin's changing suppliers guide here I come - a fascinating evening in for me! (a satisfying one at least!)
Right, must check I don't smell (too much, I know full well I smell horrid and damp - got soaked this morning!) and get off out! Back in a bit....
xx0 -
i felt i had damp dog smell yesterda after getting soaked walking into work.
good luck with changing suppliers, don't believe all they tell you, and don't get suckered in by deceptively low DD amounts, they usually want to up them to rediculous amount after the first bill or two. (sorry got stung by scottish power not long ago)0 -
Cheery read martins thing - then see if you can also use quidco to do your switching - x - can'tremember who I used but I got quidco for switching................................waves to LT

Now then, let me see if I can get this right (bear with me, because I've been getting VERY confused here!)
According to NPower, our ACTUAL electric usage from 18th May to 9th Aug (3 months) is 657kwh which they have costed at £93.06 including VAT. They have kindly reset our direct debit to £87 a month.
They have also predicted that over the next 12 months we will use 7529 kwh, at a cost of £1012.02
According to MY calculations, if we have indeed used 657kwh of electricity over the last 3 months, then multiplying that by four (to give the use over 12 months) makes 2628kwh (let's be generous and round it up to 3000 kwh - less than half of the cost of what they're predicting.
Any clues what the prediction is based on??
My actual average daily consumption (according to their bill) is 7.92kwh, which also adds up to approx 3000 kwh a year
I've got a bill from Feb to May, with actual readings, saying we used 9.55 kwh on average a day - even if we used that much all year, that's still only 3500 kwh a year.
The only thing I can think of is that over the winter we had no gas central heating (!) for 10 weeks (before Feb though) so used a couple of mini plug in electric heaters (don't have the bills for this to hand). Perhaps they've taken those readings and multiplied the over winter-no-gas reading over the entire year?? Very naughty if they have!
I was just using their predicted use without thinking until a price comparison site prompted me to check because I'd apparently put in higher than average use! For 2 of us, in a terrace, without much in the way of gadgets, no tumble dryer, no dishwasher, no newfangled tv, all energy saving light bulbs, no electric cooker or heating (apart from over the winter), one shower a day between us if we're lucky etc etc etc
<puts sneakily suspicious look on face>
<rolls up sleeves to do battle with gas bill in similar fashion>0 -
i suspect they have multiplied up your highest useage, added some, divided by another amount and then times it by an multiple generated by that days chicken driven calculator.
I had a conversation with Eon. just before last winter about their predictions and thankfully ended up winning the arguement, and i was proven right at the end of the winter period!0 -
I think they think of a number - double it - look out of the window - count any bird flying through and then double the final number
But it 'bound' to be more thorough than that!Total debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.

I think you're probably right Fay! :rotfl:
Just done Day 17 of Shred :j :j :j :j Worn out :rotfl: Was prompted (well scared) by getting on scales today in Boots - 10 stone 12!!!  That's 2lbs MORE than when I started Shred! That'll teach me to stuff my face for days and days on end - all those 17 days of Shredding for NOTHING!
(mind you, think how bad it'd be if I HADN'T done all that shredding  :rotfl:)
anyway, back on a bit of a mission with it now - my sister weighed herself today and weighs the same as me, and has ordered Shred, so I'm in direct competition now (but got a few days head start on her cos hers won't be here til Friday...) Best get cracking, if you see me with cake tomorrow give me a slap!
I've done lots of things today, but sadly not much PhD! Been reading a really interesting book, which I kind of justified as being 'work' (and it IS), but at the minute I really need to be WRITING, not READING
Going to finish the last of my transcribing now :j :j I've actually really enjoyed it! But it'll be the last time I'll be paid for it on Friday  Don't *need* it, but it's been nice, most of it has gone either towards Mr Daffs or the new car - at least I don't have that to pay for any more!
Tomorrow we're off to Hull to see Mr Daffs' sister, should be nice (although she's generally got a house full of cake!)

You will have sweated it off by tomorrowBlackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?
Still lurking around with a hope of some salvation:cool:0 -
enjoy your cake, all cake eaten North of the border (any border will do) doesn't count when it comes to calories.0
