    Evening!

Fay - our new car is silver!! The only colour I said I would absolutely NOT have :rotfl:

(but it does have the two pink guinea pigs stuck on the front, of course). Mr Daffs is doing his best to get rid of them

    L----ooo----nn
g day today! Stupidly late for the train, involving far too much rushing, over an hour on a rickety train, (upstairs on a double decker bus through the countryside like a couple of excitable children!), picked up the car, messed around with the stereo, realised we hadn't brought a road map  went (probably - actually have no idea) what felt like the wrong way round the Huddersfield ring road, got VERY hungry, did an awful lot of squabbling :o (we're not very good at the hungry/stressed combination!), and have only just managed to get home - fortunately without writing off the new car in the process! :rotfl:

Anyway, much tea has now been drunk :coffee: and many hot cross buns consumed :j :j Feeling almost human again! Mr Daffs has disappeared for a nap - very sensible! :rotfl: And I'm mooching around MSE and drinking my tea :j

Couple of things HAVE to be done tonight:

    * PhD - meant to hand in a chapter today - which will NOT be happening :o So need to finish my mini-structure thing, and finish a section, and compose a suitably apologetic email...

    * Car - need to sort out insurance. Did some comparisons last week before we agreed to buy it, it was coming out at about £225 - little bit less than the van. Checked Aviva last night (they have 2 months free offer) - came out at £167!! :j :j :j Double checked everything, but we were on the way out to a party, and I wanted to triple check, so saved the offer to sort out this morning. Went to the website this morning - and it was down for maintenance!! Rang up to sort it, and their system was down for maintenance too! Woman suggested I just ring at 12pm, but by that point we were going to be nearly there, and I couldn't risk it still being broken. Eventually decided to take out another day insurance policy (£15) to get us home, and sort it out tonight, so I must do that! Aviva also offering £30 cashback on top of that!

    * birthday! Everything that needs to be ordered for Mr Daffs' birthday has been ordered - but there's a few things that need to be made, so I need to make a start on that, even if it's just an hour or so. That should be enough to get one, possibly two things finished :j

    * lunch for tomorrow - can't afford to buy lunch at work tomorrow!!

    * money - everything's got a bit mad with this car buying business, things going in and out of accounts, need to give Mr Daffs some cash and transfer some over, need to swap between accounts to pay for the insurance etc etc etc, need to activate paypal thing (although I don't actually need it any more!) Also spent money on train and bus fares today, emergency food, ice creams and tea yesterday etc etc - some of that was accounted for, some of it wasn't... Day insurance and bus/train fares can come out of van buying fund as far as I'm concerned! But I also need to figure out how much is in there - should be a bit extra to pay off what I owe Mr Daffs - nice to see that total go down a bit after months! :j :j :j

    * little drive out in the car - only drove it round Morrison's car park on the way home and I was already in a bad mood! :rotfl:

    * library books - MUST get Mr Daffs to take them back tomorrow - think one or two may have been due back yesterday and I forgot with all the car business... :o

Anyway, that's quite enough, should probably go and get cracking!
  • Just had a catch up and had to say congrats for all the shredding and yay to GP car :)

    HI Bob :j

Thanks :) Forgot about the shredding :rotfl: In fact, I did Day 11 this morning - first day of Level 2, and then promptly forgot all about it in the car messing around! :rotfl: !!!!!! are those squat thrusts???? I laughed out loud when they came on!!! :rotfl:

Just taken the seats out of the back of the car to go in the cellar, and had our first cup of tea sitting in the back :j :j :j :rotfl:

    Aaaarrrrrrgggggghhhhhh! :mad::mad::mad:

How difficult can it possibly be to actually *buy* some car insurance???

Found a quote from Aviva last night for £167 (including 2 months free, about 15% online discount, and potentially £30 cashback on top :j) However, we were about to go out, so I saved it to buy this morning.

This morning their server was apparently being maintained. Rang up and spoke to someone who said I'd have to ring back at 12. Because we were actually out *buying* the car at 12, I wasn't able to, so paid £15 for a 24 hour policy so we could bring it home - still cheaper than nearest other quote.

Tried to retrieve quote and buy tonight - but their server keeps dropping the connection. I've been trying for about an hour and a half :mad:

I'm afraid I've sent a rather snotty email telling them that I really would rather like to buy my car insurance from them, but as I have already paid £15 extra for today, and spent an hour and a half trying to sort it out, and it's an online policy and their server doesn't seem very reliable, I'm seriously considering my sanity. And also telling them that if I have not heard from them by 11am tomorrow, I shall be toddling off to one of their competitors with a more reliable server connection, regardless of the cost!

(the difference is about £60  and I've already paid £15 out for today, which I wouldn't have had to do if I'd gone to someone else yesterday, so I will be VERY cross if this doesn't get sorted out!)

Quite right honeybear! Just tried again and it's still not working. Will try at work tomorrow just in case it's something wrong with my internet connection (hope not, that'll be embarrassing!!) and then I'll ring, and that's their last chance...

Anyway, on a more cheery note, just went out round the bloke a few times to have a go at driving it (Mr Daffs drove home earlier). Very cheery!! My little mp3 player plugs in so I could listen to Harry Potter :rotfl: (we never had a stereo in the van and it was too loud for earphones! so this is a proper novelty!). Reverse parked it a few times (on a completely empty road :rotfl: with just one taxi driver looking at me like I was really strange reverse parking several times on each side of the road :rotfl:)

Anyway, all very jolly, feels very nice, only managed to stall it once - once I'd parked outside the house, was talking to Mr Daffs through the window, and switched it off without taking it out of gear :)

Bit calmer now anyway! Off to find something sensible to wear for w*rk tomorrow, then some beauty sleep I think - well in need of it after today! Going to sort out the scary financial details tomorrow - bleurgh!

    Night all
    xx

glad the piggie car is at home with you new and you've gotten used to driving it.

we fitted a cycle rack to my car today, and i did a drive around to check it all out. Problem is that i need to get used to cycling (again) but aim is for it to be back on car next weekend so that i can cycle part of the way to work from next week. (not far mind but it will be quicker than walking)
