It sounds *very* interesting, and you sound completely bonkers

Thought I might try Lindy Hop next weekDon't ask me what it is! (1940s swing dancing, I believe
) but I know a couple of folk who do it, and it sounds like fun!
And one of my resolutions this year was to dance moreAnd I don't feel the need to find one form of dance and stick to it til I'm brilliant - more just all and any that will have me, whenever the urge takes me (some of these things only happen once a month), so anything is good

Hehe that sounds brilliant (and slightly bonkers) - fantastic!
Your description of the polska reminds me of doing the Tarantella in ballet classes, where you had to pretend a spider was biting your foot and you were trying to shake it off - I think the proper traditional idea was dancing about to get rid of the spider bite poison, but that's how our teacher described it to us and it seemed to work :rotfl:

Oh wow, Lindy Hop is sooooooooo much fun. If I remember rightly it was the precursor to jiving. Love it, lots of energy, throwing around and being thrown around, bouncy, fast smily fun. Even better if you can wear authentic 1940s dress.
a little taster here

My town is of course *very* special
:rotfl: (it's also a fairly large city, which helps!)
But really, there's all kinds of things going on in all kinds of places, you just wouldn't necessarily know about them. Get your snout in those tiny little notifications pages of the local paper, tea dancing and bridge classes, fencing, all kinds of bizarre fun. Keep an eye on the post office and newsagents windows, you just never know what will pop up. Pick up a copy of all the leaflets in the library, and go through them with your diary and a pen handy. Have a good conversation with *anyone* who shows an interest in *anything* - people who are passionate about something, whatever it is, are usually pretty good people to know. Say yes to things people invite you to, however mad they sound, then when you're there, get chatting to all and sundry, about things they're interested in, and then say yes to the things *they* invite you to as well. Don't be scared of things because you think your mates will think they're weird. Don't be scared of things because you think you'll look a bit daft doing them. In fact, don't be scared of having a go at anything.

And on that note, I'm off out for a run0 -
Ooh very motivating! I think you could get paid for speeches like that!
Hope you enjoyed the runWeight loss: Start weight: 80kg; Current Weight: 77kg; Target weight: 55kg0 -

I did indeed enjoy the run, and the second hand bath, and now I'm all glittery and high-heely and off out to a birthday party
(orange juice and marmitey-toast first though)

ooh, enjoy! You are a social guru. I must take a leaf out of your book. And great to hear that you wear heels as well as wellies.
Oh, I forgot to mention I was at a seminar in Cardiff last week and there was a woman in wellies (really, a high powered political seminar and she had wellies on) which had obviously never seen a sliver of mud.
