:T :T Thanks Squizz, lovely to meet you too, sorry if I was a bit vacant
I can't say I was impressed with being handed another form to get signed by my supervisor and the head of department requesting a 7 day extension of my time limit - because they give you 5 working days leeway, but I'd gone over it  Wouldn't have gone over it if I'd have realised - the dept said we'd be alright for a month! - If i'd have known I would have got Mr Daffs to put the damn thing in the binders while I was at work on Monday...
Ah well, so what started out very nicely, meeting Squizz, getting rid of the thesis, turned into a traipse to the other side of campus, traipsing to find someone to sign the form (including the office staff looking at me and not opening the door as the office closed at 3.30 and it was 3.35), traipsing all the way back, to be told they couldn't take my fees off me so I'd have to go to another department once they'd updated my student record...
Anyway, after all that, we were both rather tired and fed up, tried to pop into the museum for a cuppa, to be met at the door and told they were just closing, at which point I burst into tears and we had to just sit on the steps for a while before we could get our acts together to come home...
So, home now, kettle's on, feeling slightly less worn out and emotional :rotfl: :rotfl: I'd best be able to pay these fees over the telephone, or else they're not having them at all! I have a feeling they're going to charge me an extra £28 too for the 'month' (eg 7 days) that I'm overdue.
Sigh. So we're not quite there yet - they won't send my thesis to the examiners until they've processed this bl**dy form, so that'll hold everything up too I imagine!
(obviously, I must stress none of this is Squizz's responsibility! And they really are just doing their jobs, it's just mildly frustrating that's all!)
The sooner I'm rid the better I say. Now then, let's have a cuppa before we start on the champagne, I'm not feeling particularly celebratory right now!0 -
Aww Cheery :grouphug: I didn't know about the 5 day rule or I'd have warned you in advance - I thought you got about a month too. Think you can pay the fees online or over the phone.
Anyway, it was lovely to meet you.. hope you get everything sorted soon, and it would be good to go for a cuppa sometime under less stressed circumstances!
Have a good weekend xDebt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
Good job about paying fees over the phone Squizz or at this rate they wouldn't be getting any
:rotfl: I guess we're a step or two closer at any rate! :T :T
Feeling much better now I've got a cuppa:coffee: :coffee: :coffee:
Now that's all out of the way - must start thinking about this exciting signature! What to put in it?! I haven't got any debt, haven't got a specific thing I'm saving for... The plan was to stick £450 a month into a savings account, but that's not particularly exciting? My contract at work is full time for 2 years, and then nothing after that, so I could aim to have £10,000 saved up by then? Jan/Feb/March money is going towards the Palace Fundbut after that there's 20 months of wages left, which would be £500 a month? I really want to make sure I have enough left over to be a little frivolous occasionally though
Hmm. Perhaps a smaller, intermediate target on top of the longer term thing? We were going to investigate the mortgage actually, weren't we?! That would be instead of the £10000 in savings though rather than as well as it... Hmm...
Or perhaps I need a treats/holidays related goal in my signature?? Could put the amount I've got saved in car maintenance fund :rotfl: Trouble is, it doesn't feel like a very satisfying challenge if I know it's just going to come straight out of my wages at teh beginning of the month.
<scratches head>
Any suggestions?!0 -
Oh dear! You poor thing, it sounds horrible. I'm glad the cuppa teas are working their magic. As for your sig.... you wanted a patchwork life, and thats taken a back seat while you have this great contract over these two years. Contracts, and the times, being what they are, maybe you could take some time to think about/plan how another income stream could be set up? Could you sell on etsy? You're right that it needs more than "the DD came out of my bank account" :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: for now, tho, have a nice weekend!2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Good suggestion KC! :T I'd have enough money for a year or 18 months off work completely, so it wouldn't be too bad, and I'm willing to turn my hand to pretty much anything if necessary, but you're right, thinking about another income stream would be good too. Hmmm, will have a think.
On a cheery note, I've just been and signed up for a cheery little photography/journalling course that I've been looking at wistfully for months and months and promising myself I'd do once the PhD was finished :j It's called 'the art of living cheerfully'What fun!
And - while that in itself isn't very MSE - I went to pay and discovered I already had £9.58 in my paypal account so it felt like a nice discount
Doesn't start til 20th March, but I can't wait! :j :j0 -
