    Wow LT, well done on your use it up challenge! I bet that's saved you loads over the last few years!

    (I love lists too Redmadcurls!) :):)

    And thanks fay! it's just nice to remember what you *have* done when you feel like you're trudging along not achieving very much.... :):)

    (speaking of which - scary PhD supervision in the morning - bleurgh....)

    <tries to think positive>

    <remembers there's Shred to do BEFORE supervision>

    <decides to be more scared of Shred, and supervision will seem puny in comparison>

    :):)

    No! That's not how it works! I think @Lemon Tree is talking about the "No toiletries challenge" (can be found on the Health/Beauty/Fashion board). The people on that thread (me included) are all product junkies who spend way too much time in Boots/The Body Shop and various department stores buying beauty products.

    As a result we have tons of stuff that's almost impossible to get through. It doesn't save us money because we seem to be addicted to trying every new beauty product out there, particularly when things are on special offer so we seem to buy more stuff than we can ever use, creating clutter, hence the listing. It's an expensive hobby rather than money saving one!

    I'm doing a "use it up" thing - but on my own, cos I'm not a product junky - I've got samples from here there and everywhere, or 3 things on the go cos there's one in my handbag, or I buy cos its on offer and then forget where it is (I do that with household cleaners too - I forget that storage is there for things that can be taken out of storage and, you know, **used**) :) It *is* saving me loads - limescale cleaner, facial cleanser, shampoo, toothpaste, are some of the things I've found recently.

    Me too Karmcat - not really a junkie but seemed to accummulate alot of 'bits' which I had kept/no used because they were 'handy'!

    So I too am only buying when an item is done, cant say how much it has saved me but I now rarely buy any products.

    I had also decided to build my own tinned soup and pasta mountains for some bizzare reason - they too are depleted.

    Good luck with supervision Daff and day two of shred - well done!

    There is no point in negative thought, it takes up time and energy which could be used in a positive, happy way!
  • Hope supervision was less evil than Shred..........

    it's saving me a fortune as well, except for a few lapses. Thankfully i've not been a beauty product must have person but i do seem to have a LOT of Sanctuary products.

    good luck with the Shred and the PhD supervision.

    Thanks you lovely lot! I reckon you must have saved LT, even if that wasn't the original idea! :j

    Day 3 of Shred done :eek: arms are certainly aching today... might have to give tomorrow a miss and do day 4 on Sunday, don't want to do myself a mischief! We'll see... :p

    Supervision wasn't really that scary - lots of things to do though - best get cracking!

    Oooh, and I got paid this morning! :j:j I worked out from salary calculator thing that my normal wage should be £780 a month, but last month I only got £680 cos I hadn't sent P45 in... :o So I was expecting my normal £780 + £100 extra this morning - but I've got £960! :p Wage slip at work so I won't know what's going on til Tuesday, but off to update spreadsheets and move things around internet bank accounts, and then I'll come back and start my TaDa list! :j

    OOh, look what I just found! It's not *quite* tea but it's close enough!

    :coffee:

    Money Update!

    (and I'm stealing Fay's idea of having it in a different colour to distinguish from all the waffle!) :rotfl:

    So.... There's £1011.41 in the bak account! :j:j:j And I'll be taking out another £10 tomorrow, so let's call it £1000 :j:j

    And out of that, August's budget is:

    £265 rent (just paid)
    £25 emergency fund (now stands at £50 in the bank, and £65 in cash!) :j
    £25 phone bill (usually £20)
    £20 diesel (not that I've got anything to put it in!) :rotfl:
    £70 writing up fees (goes out on Monday - only for another couple of months)
    £325 cash

    £325 cash is made up of:

    £25 food
    £15 unnecessary/cheery
    £25 train fares

    each week for 5 weeks

    Which equals £730 - which leaves £270, which I've just trasferred into the van fund! :j:j:j Oh, I do like this saving at the beginning of the month thing, SO much more predictable and cheery! :j:j

    So...... in the bank accounts now there is....

    £406.44 in current account (cash, fees and a tiny bit spare) :j
    £95 in the bills account (emergency fund, diesel, phone bill) :j
    £699.77 in the van fund (another £87.50 in cash) :j

    So my half of the van fund now stands at £787.27 :j:j meaning that in total we can spend £1574 :j:j Which is pretty much what we planned! We'll get £150 tax refunded, so that can either be added to the fund when it turns up, or used towards the tax for next car. There's £162 with the van insurance company, which we can use towards insuring new car if we buy one in the next week.

    And in total this month, from transcribing and surveys and not spending all my budget, and the refund of last month's tax overpayment, I've made £258.46 extra! :j:j

    (oops, just remembered we sold the van too! So presuming that counts, I'll just count my 'half' - that makes £345.96 extra!) :j:D:j:D

    Altogether, I'm rather chuffed with myself actually! :rotfl:

    of course, the thing about all this getting paid monthly malarkey is that I now can't have a flurry of internet banking for another month! Pah! :rotfl:

    (how many jumping smileys are there in that post?? :rotfl: too much Shred I think, I've got jumping jacks on the brain! :rotfl:

    And now we've got that over and done with, let's have today's TaDa list, because I don't seem to have even started one yet and it's gone 4 o'clock!

    TA DA!!!!

    * Day 3 of Shred! :j
    * PhD supervision
    * cup of tea and intellectual discussion with friend :rotfl:
    * lunch with Mr daffs
    * internet banking and spreadsheets

    Oh dear, looking a bit sparse today isn't it?? :rotfl::rotfl:

    It's not sustainable to have lists as long as the earlier ones every day (except for Duracell bunnies!)

    About that budget--is there any money for for socialising/alcohol/nights out/clothes/haircuts/beauty products? I'm not recommending a shopping spree but surely you would need some money for the above items in the budget? Could any of the money you can't account for have gone on these things?
