Another of your lurkers/fans here:hello:. Just dropping in to say I'm really impressed by that list of things you did today.
Also impressed that the Shred dvd is in the middle of the list. From it's reviews on here you wouldn't have been expected to do a single other thing after you'd finished that:D

Morning Cheery,
Just wanted to say that I love your Ta Da list! I might borrow it because when you look at your day like that it must spur you on to get on with things rather than looking at a long list that you will never achieve. Well done on the uni work.Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, I will try again tomorrow -- Mary Anne Radmacher0 -
HI Mags! :beer: lovely to see you
You'll be even more impressed today as the Shred thing is at the very beginning, even before breakfast! :eek::eek: It was a lot harder today too! :eek::eek: goodness knows what tomorrow will be like! :eek::eek:
Actually cherisong, that list *was* really motivating! :j:j even though some of the things were really small, some of them I'd been putting off for ages, and it really made me feel like I'd achieved something :j:j so yes, start your own sparkly TaDa list, it feels great! :j:j (today's list coming up shortly....)
Man just came to take vanhe was *very* young :rotfl: but very cheery, didn't quibble over price, just straightforward and cheery and towed it away. So just having a nice cup of tea.
Got out insurance docs etc to cancel insurance (we don't have anything to transfer it to, and won't be able to anyway because it's a van policy and we'll be getting a car) - they want £50 cancellation fee! :eek::mad: plus 10% of the refund! :eek: And that's for the breakdown cover too - which only cost £64 in the first place, so I do hope they're not going to land up charging US! :eek::eek::eek: I shall be very cross if they do, and they certainly won't get getting our car insurance policy! :eek:
Right, off to do a bit of scary phone-calling0 -
Ok, here goes with today's
ta da list!
* Day 2 Shred :j:j
* breakfast and dressed :rotfl:
* sold van
* rang to cancel insurance and breakdown cover
* filled in DVLA forms for notification/tax refund
er, that's it :rotfl:0 -
You are sad you sold the van?

Aw, your car will be nice - and you were bored with the sale process, remember. And cheery van is going to another cheery person, so its all good in the end.
Your Ta-Da list is **fantastic** - I know what you mean about the little jobs hanging on for ages, it feels so bad. It will also stop you feeling like you haven't done anything with your time - you can remember 1.5 hours PhD work, but the rest can blur, and it all has to be done.
Good for you2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Thanks
You're right, you do forget all the little things you've done in a day (although often I actually don't get any little things done either!) But my cheery list is very motivating!
RMC, yes, I'm a little sad about selling the vanIt was my first car! (in fact, the only one I'e ever owned, obviously). I absolutely hated it to start with, it stopped dead the first time I took it out, I shot backwards down a hill and crashed into an old lady's car, I got a ticket for whizzing through a red light cos I was so paranoid about doing hill starts...
It's broken down more times than I can count, I've been stranded on my own several times, it was completely unreliable and you could never guarantee you could get anywhere at all, let alone on time. It used so much diesel, never got up to a decent speed, rattled along like an old bone shaker, kicked out loads of black smoke and was so noisy you couldn't have a conversation while you were driving.
However... we bought it 6 weeks after me and mr Daffs got together, so it was a bit of a 'new relationship' joint purchase, and has been with us since then, so knocking on for 5 years. We've had some lovely holidays in it, I've thoroughly enjoyed driving it, being high up enough to see over hedges, bimbling along at a snail's pace, people seeing a young woman driving a big van and moving out of the way pretty darn quick :rotfl: So yes, I am a little sad to be getting rid of it
However, new adventures are on the horizon! The insurance cancellation fee works out at about £66, but we don't lose that if we cancel and take out a new policy for a new car within 7 days, so the race is on... (although it might actually work out cheaper to go with someone else anyway! Probably not £66 cheaper for the year though).
Anyway, back to the list, going to do a bit more attic sorting, then a few hours of PhD, got a supervision meeting tomorrow...0 -
Awh I can understand why you are a little sad to see it go!
I had a car that I loved that broke down on the way to hand in my dissertation so it was the end of my student life and my student car - to date still my fav one everLBM Feb 2010 £62,700 Total Debt Jan 11 [STRIKE]£49,403.84[/STRIKE] £47,530.32.

Right, please excuse me, I'm having a bit of a self indulgent day here! Just been sorting out money related things and I'm getting in a bit of a muddle with all kinds of things going in and out!
Transcribing work - £33.90 this month (for some reason I was expecting about £60? Will have to wait til pay slip arrives)
Notetaking work - £18. 29. This is a nice surprise, because I haven't actually done any work for weeks, but got a letter saying they'd been working out our holiday pay in the wrong way (!) and we would be reimbursed with what we should have had since April 2008 :j I did a (very quick) back of envelope working out, and guessed I should be due about £50 ish. Evidently I was wrong...But will also wait for payslip on this one too as I can't actually remember how many hours I've worked...
Still not worked out where extra money went for this month, but it was only about £30 or so I think, and I'm just assuming I worked it out wrong in the first place...Anyway, this month's nearly over now, so I've just taken £20 from the extra I've received to tide me over til Sunday, and then on Monday the next month's budget starts :T
I've added the allocated diesel money for July (£20) to the new van fund (actually there was £23.09 in there cos some left over from the phone bill budget) - and together with 'my' half of what we were paid this morning, my half of van budget stands at £517.07 :T
I'm also due around £100 extra tax refund this month (although all my other calculations have been wildly out, so we'll see! :rotfl:), and that can go straight into van fund too. There should also be around £40 spare once August's money has been allocated into pots, so we should be up to around £655 for my half of the van once I've been paid on Friday, which is about right! :j
And I sent the old van tax disc off for a refund this morning - 9 months left so should be around £150 :j Hopefully the new one will have several months on, so we can add this to the buying fund :T
Do you know, I'm quite impressed with the amount I've managed to save recently! :T I know it's not huge amounts, and I've pretty much stopped paying Mr Daffs back for the time being (because if I carried on, he'd then have to pay for the entire van, and then I'd have to pay him back for that... :rotfl:). But my new budget system is pretty much working :T
When I get paid on Friday, I'll take out what's needed for monthly things (phone bill, diesel, emergency fund, fees money) and then leave enough in the account for 5 weeks of food/unnecessary spending money, and then I'll put the rest straight into the van fund :T That means it's not there to be spent! And doing that each month means I save about £40 at the beginning of the month, as soon as I've been paid (and about £100 on the months there's only 4 weeks!). Then any left over at the end of the week goes in there too.
I'll be so pleased when we've got this new car, and I've paid Mr daffs and these fees back, I'll feel proper rich! :j0
