Sorry KC, it's not *that* close - it's a week on Monday we're going (20th) - so there's still a bit of time! Still pretty close though

    Okay, thats good.

It's difficult all these cancellations in this weather isn't it? Mr daffs is really suffering, most of his income for December has just been wiped out entirely. Obviously we won't starve, it's not a financial thing, it's more psychological for him, it's really worrying not to have anything coming *in* even if there's enough already *in* to deal with things, if you see what I mean

(actually, I'd be impressed if you could see what I mean, that was awfully waffly!) :rotfl:

Right - friend arranged for 1.30, so I've got 2 hours to get a grip on the PhD. Lots of beginnings and ends I think today! At least I'm dressed now - always a good start :D And hot water bottle is filled, I'm sat at the kitchen table with a blanket round my knees and a cuppa :rotfl:

I see exactly what you mean! Thats my position now I'm debt free - if there's a shortfall I can cope, but I don't *want* to cope :D I do have a little weather related shortfall, but its usually a problem of just not enough work these days :( hey ho, I'm paying attention to that.

Cheery, how is it that you are always so, well, cheery?

Your diary is a little ray of sunshine in Diaryland.

Well, thank you very much :D :j :j I'm just generally of a cheery disposition :j Sometimes things get on top of me a little, but really, I'm rather resilient, and never down for more than about half an hour at a time :rotfl: My parents are both quite cheery in their way - mu mum has a very child-like appreciation of small things (although is also very prone to depression and catastrophising - odd combination!) and my dad is rather happy-go-lucky - they were only married for 5 years and divorced when I was 3, but the good bits of both seemed to have rubbed off on me :D

Glad you've got an advent calendar too = and hooray at eating an entire week's worth of chocolate on one go! :rotfl: (A DALEK though?!)

Good on you for sorting it out KC. You'll be on top of the trading soon I'm sure :D

Just been for a cuppa with my friend and her extremely cheery (today!) 2 year old :D Always fun :D Then a quick potter round the charity shops, picked up some wrapping paper for work christmas do pass-the-parcel game :rotfl: And also FINALLY got a white double duvet cover to line the living room curtains with! :j :j

This has been an ongoing fiasco :rotfl: Mr Daffs likes to have the curtains shut, and when I moved in, the living room curtains had been shut for several YEARS, and he had a dehumidifier on all the time because the room was damp  Obviously, I threw open the curtains, and it's been fine ever since :j However, the curtains are velvet, and the linings are completely grey, ripped, faded, sun-bleached, and altogether disgusting :o Looks like a squat when they're shut

There's 2 large windows, and a couple of months ago I bought a £2 duvet cover - enough to line one set of curtains, which I did :j Just been looking for the right thing to do the other set - but wasn't going to pay for proper lining material :rotfl: Another £2 duvet cover - obviously not exactly the same as the other, but they're both white, and the windows aren't next to eat other, so it doesn't matter

£4 for the whole room! :money:

So *one* of tonight's (many!) tasks will be cutting and measuring, then taking the curtains down, sewing the lining back in, and hanging them back up (actually, might wait for Mr Daffs to get back as i think it involves unscrewing the curtain pole, and it'll be easier with two).

    Anyway, pleased with that!

But time to crack on I think. Think I'm going to get myself going by doing 15 minutes PhD, 15 minutes 'work' work, 15 minutes house/Christmas activities, 15 minutes playing :D Sounds like I won't get much done :rotfl: but I guarantee it'll be more than if I sit down and try to do a whole solid hour of PhD - chances are in that case I'll get no PhD, work, house or Christmas stuff done at all, and probably won't have had much fun either! :rotfl:

    Back in an hour...

Cheery you always manage to get so much done each day i'm surprised you have enough energy. I've still got the wadding and lining to stitch onto my second pair of living room curtains, had it a year and still not done it. Still have to cover the last bit of the sofa frame. One day they will get done.

    Hi Cheery and everyone

I posted a message a while ago and then have been without my computer for about a week so lots to catch up on.

Cheery - *positive vibes* for your hols. :D

I do something similar to the 15 minutes thing - if I'm on the computer i'll get so much done e.g reading of threads or completing surveys and then i'll get up and do some housework or paperwork etc. and then back to the comp. I agree, definitely get more done that way. :T

  • Morning all,

Also going to be trying not to check the weather/traffic/rail forecasts - I'm trying desperately NOT to worry about our holidays! We're leaving in a couple of weeks, and at the minute the roads are impassable and there's no trains  So even if we *do* leave, we might never make it!

But I REFUSE to have my holiday cancelled AGAIN because of the weather, absolutely REFUSE!

Best start walking then I suppose! :rotfl:

In today's advent calendar? A mouse stuffing berries into a stocking :rotfl: :rotfl:

Anybody up to anything exciting today?

OK don't look at the weather - no point - its very changable. Thaw predicted followed by more snow, more thaw - fingers crossed

And, I won't tell you that currently the car is stuck at the top of the road in a snow drift - because that doesn't matter - we can walk down the track.

I think you want to look into and consider aberdeen as a fall back option but don't panic just have it as your 'second' option' (for the ferry - the ferry always runs in the snow)

Big box - bit of food, laptop - first class post you'll be here by tomorrow................................

I'd actually forgotten about the Aberdeen ferry - daft really as that's how I got there the first two times I came! :rotfl: Of course, that relies on being able to get to Aberdeen... but possibly slightly easier than getting all the way to the top! Will investigate :D

(but not right now - was doing alright with my 15 minutes, then spoke to work colleague and we needed to coordinate who was working on which documents til when, so I said I'd do 5-7 and she's doing 7-9 - best crack on, then at 7 I'll move on to PhD/Christmas stuff :D)

    Thanks KC :D

Finished working now, and had a cheese and mushroom pancake to celebrate :D

Need to do a little PhD now, and put some books on Amazon, and find and order Mr Daffs' Christmas present, and maybe measure out this fabric and start hemming it. I'd love to get the curtains sorted before we go away, because inevitably Mr Daffs will want to leave them shut for a fortnight :rotfl:

I could also do with finishing Christmas cards, and starting to write them... oh, and starting to make the few small things I planned to make... Hmm....

We look at the following alot http://trafficscotland.org/lev/

It will give you an overview of the road all up the road - might help?
