Morning, hope you're feeling better today.Cheery_Daff wrote: »spent the entire afternoon lying on the sofa with hot water bottle, watching Harry Potter
This is what I did on Saturday too - wasn't ill, just cold and lazy
Saw Country Market stall at the market yesterday and was wondering if you might be about somewhere!Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
Which market were you at Squizz? I was at Sharrowvale Christmas market for a while! :T
Harry Potter was GREATBut then I do very much enjoy them all
Feeling mentally better this morning, but blimey my head and neck hurtI think it's all this ludicrous coughing I'm doing, every time I cough I feel like my head's about to explode, and even just sitting here the back of my neck is so sore and my forehead feels like it's about to burst
So a little better, but still not right. At least symptoms are changing though - wouldn't want the same ones every day, that would be boring! :rotfl:
I'll take some ibuprofen I think, then off to have a shower, see if the steam eases my headache (it often does). Then head down for a few hours of PhDing, and then I'm going to spend the afternoon away from screens - spent far too much time in front of either the laptop or tv these past few days! Might pop and visit a friend or two (wearing a face mask, of course :rotfl:)0 -
Sharrowvale too - I thought it was really good except that we kept seeing nice cakes, going back for them later and they'd gone! Sob! We did still go home with a big bag of nice things though
Hope the shower and ibuprofen help xDebt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
We were helping a mate on his stall, stained glass dogs, fish, robins, lizards, did you see it?? I was only there for an hour or so in the afternoon, but Mr Daffs was there all day. Gosh, we keep being in the same place at the same time - really must intentionally meet you one day so when we ARE in the same place at the same time we recognise each other and can say hello :rotfl:
Busy drinking possibly the most vile concoction in the world :rotfl: which according to my Fragrant Pharmacy book will help get rid of my cough. Doesn't taste very nice, but I must admit I haven't coughed once since I started drinking it :rotfl: (still got a headache though!)0 -
Happy monday cheery
x hope the headache goes soon xxx

Yes we must do! Yep I did see the stained glass stall - really nice stuffBeing in the same place reminds me I've been meaning to ask which Uni you're doing your PhD with - I work for one of them and am in the same building where people drop off their theses, so if it's that one maybe we could have a celebratory cuppa when you finish, if you fancy it? (PM if you like, if you don't want to put it on the forum) Even if it's not here it would be lovely to meet you properly at some point!
What's your concoction made of? My mum swears by a foul mixture of honey, garlic and various other things for a cough, disgusting but it really does work.Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
Well you probably caught a glimpse of Mr Daffs then :rotfl: Green velvet hat (which I made
) and a long coat
I'll PM you re where I am properly, do far too much complaining to pinpoint myself too specifically
Ooh, and my concoction was pretty simple - and was kind of an adaption of what the book said. Thyme from the garden infused in boiling water, then mixed 1 drop of tea tree oil and 2 drops of eucalyptus mixed with 2 tablespoons of honey, then added one teaspoon of the honey mix to the thyme tea. I think all the honey sank to the bottom, cos it really was rather bitter at the top, and far too sweet near the end :rotfl:
Heard yesterday that one of my PhD mates had her viva the other day, and was given major correctionsThis is getting very silly. When I first started, major corrections was REALLY rare, and even the students could pretty much tell in advance who would get them - my first 5 years in the department there was only one person, he'd been there about 8 years, from Taiwan, and every time he presented his research not a single person could understand how it fit together into a coherent structure. So we all expected that.
Then my friend, golden boy of the dept, and supervised by the head of department, was given major corrections (examined by my supervisor). We were all SO shocked, this was SO out of the ordinary. The department was in uproar.
Then I was given major corrections. I had thought (hoped??) that since my supervisor had recently given someone else major corrections, he'd know what to look out for...
Now another friend, also well educated, intelligent, with an interesting, viable research project and no expectations of major corrections, has been given just that. Guess who her supervisor is? MY examiner. Yet again - you'd have thought he'd be able to recognise the signs, but this seems to have come as a bit of a shock too.
I do hope at some point the department is going to have a good look at itself and the inconsistencies in its supervisory/examination processes, rather than the blame falling entirely on the students! Not that I'm trying to duck out of my share of the responsibility, of course, but this really shouldn't be happening!
Anyway, back to it I suppose0
