Oh wow, you're going on the mind-mapping course:jI'm rather jealous of how you keep meeting up with friends from the internet. It all sounds like great fun:D

You can do it too Mags!

I just happen to have done a bit recently cos I've been sent to places for work, or gone visiting friends, and it's just happened that there's been MSE people there too :D And my 'other forum' (:D) has been going for years and years, we meet up pretty regularly anyway in various places, just see where someone's running, and decide if we can be bothered getting there on time! :rotfl:

well, with all the excitement over tomorrow, I'm not doing very well with my chapter :o Finished the first section, and it's looking great, much better than before! :j :j So I'm very pleased about that! Slightly less pleased about the remaining 6 sections (of various sizes) that I've still got to sort out :o

Rather annoyed with myself, because although I'm pleased with what I have done, I could have done more! But mind's all over the place, and I'm excited about tomorrow :D:o Of course, the problem is that I now don't have tomorrow either! Going to work on the train there and back though, which will give me 2-3 hours :T (I like working on trains)

So, here's the plan of the chapter:

(oh and before you tell me, I *know* you're meant to make all your sections of roughly equal size - I do live with a very pernickety professional editor, after all :rotfl: :rotfl: But there was no comment from examiners about that, so that's the least of my worries right now!) :D

    Introduction - done

    Section 1
    1a - done
    1b - 2.5 pages
1c - only one paragraph long! :rotfl:

    Section 2
    2a - 2.5 pages
    2b - 2 pages

    Section 3 - 1.5 pages
    Section 4 - 1 page
    Conclusions - 1 paragraph

Well, I feel better for just writing it down like that! :j Still not convinced I'll get it all done today, but it does feel rather more manageable :j

1a has gone from being 2.5 pages to 3.5 pages (about 1400 words), and it's likely that the others will increase a bit too. I'm thinking that for what remains of today I need to focus on getting section 1 finished. No point rushing it and doing a really bad job, so there's a balance between focus and not obsessing :rotfl: But another 3 pages I think I can manage.

Then the rest I'll have to worry about tomorrow :o

Annoying when you don't meet your goals, isn't it?? :o Especially since this is the first one I actually thought I'd meet in a long time :o :rotfl:

Hello - you sound very busy - just checking on how much squallour you'll find acceptable for xmas - I mean do I have to start cleaning now?

My writing is going slowly - but I'm finding I'm less scared of the words getting out at the moment - then again I've not had a supervisor meeting in absolutely yonks - might be to do with that or doing that pesky blog everyday - makes me want to write and write and write, which is good - but not for anyone trying to read my abudnant nonsense.

I need to really sit down and think up a workable plan (I said that last week didn't I?) where do the weeks go?

    *kettle on*

Cheery that is fabulous news. It is not borrowing from yourself either it is investing in yourself. Think of it like the student loan stuff. You often get that up front and pay it off later. In this case its just the other way round, either way an investment. MG is also making an investment because once you have been you can "sell" the course for her by talking about it.

EH - you are very right but I still fall for it every time. Love the asking to repeat the question. I do that in interviews but never thought of it in personal life. I might try that one.

LT - how bizarre! I love making comments in green pen rather than red. I find that people accept it much more. My favourite friends I am afraid are fountain pens. I love to write a really nice letter to people with a fountain pen (cant find mine at the moment though :()

right less diversionary tactics. Taking a leaf out of your book Cheery and going back to work. By the way, the turnaround in your attitude to the PHD is immense. I am so pleased to see you being much more positive.

Lovley comment to cheery and I'm the same with the pens - green biro I love (we must be pen triplets - or more I've lost count) and I absolutely adore my parker pen fountain pen - its the best - I've always faniced green ink for it like Dumbledore but never remembered to look/get any.

You poor PhD people! I feel I have such luxury in not having that timetable and demand upon me. Same as not having a salaried job (tho I wish I had the income that went with a salaried job, lol).

Cheery, I love the sound of the Bra Quest - go for it! And go back to that section. Hugs!

Pippi - don't you DARE do any cleaning! Because if you do, then I will feel infinitely ashamed that your house is cleaner than mine :o In fact, if you could not bother to clean at all until Christmas, that would suit us nicely :D

Seriously - nothing at all, as long as there's not poo on the floor or maggots in the fridge, we'll be fine! :D (and if there are, we'll just clean it up, and then we'll be fine :rotfl:) Honestly, we barely have any standards at all when it comes to cleanliness :D One day you can come and stay here, then you'll see :D :rotfl:

(don't be alarmed though, we're well house trained and won't leave your place in a tip! just that ours is full of cobwebs and dust, some of which occasionally gets dealt with, some of it doesn't :rotfl:) them folk off the TV would have a field day in here :D

Isn't it stupid how the supervisions scare us into not writing???! Glad you're getting lots done! :j Hope you can have a bit of a plan made up soon though xx

cherisong, Pippi's right, that was a lovely thing to say :o I really do feel like my attitude has turned round recently, a lot of it to do with the lovely people at MSE, partly to do with my job and feeling competent at something for a change :o But it makes all the difference!

Speaking of which - back to it for a little while - after all that moaning I haven't done anything at all for 2 hours

i've got a beautiful parker fountain pen and ball point set that i've had since i did my post grad course. I love them, the ink is black though (harks back to my training when you had to use a black pen) but i don't get enough chances to use them. I'm affaid to use them at work because i'm sure someone will nick them or they'll get lost.

others are right Cheery, going on the course is an investment in yourself and it will help you in future.
