Yep, Resistance Is Futile....2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Can I argue that I had the tab open in the background??? (I think I saw KC use that argument the other day... :rotfl: not that I'm spying or anything :rotfl:)
Fay - got an ebay question for you - posted on your thread0 -
Now then, a couple of updates...
First of all, someone's bidding on our van! Hooray!! Was beginning to think the darn thing would never sell...Just one person, so still at the starting price, but good enough for me!
I realised this afternoon I hadn't put 'van' in the title so it wasn't coming up on the search thing unless you searched for the right model... I'm new to all this!
Also wondered whether I'd got myself into a silly corner - we're selling it spares or repairs because it'll need a lot doing for the MOT, which is due in about 6 days. It's got 9 months tax left on, so we decided to sell it without tax (since it's probably going to be taken apart anyway), and get the tax refunded and put the cost towards the new one. But we also said if the buyer wanted the tax, we'd leave it on if they gave us the cost of the refund. Don't know whether that's all a bit complicated - seemed sensible at the time! Oh well, too late to do anything about it
The other money related thing was train tickets to work! I booked my ticket online for tomorrow, and noticed the anytime return has gone DOWN in price! Which means that by booking exact trains and giving myself no leeway, I'm saving 30p per journey rather than the £1.15 it was before. Still saving, and I'll still do it most days, but cheery to know for when I need to be a bit more flexible (and I guess it's still £3 a month! :T)
AND - This was the first week of my new budget :j And I haven't spent it all! :j:j And I haven't felt deprived or anything! :j I need to add it up, but I've probably underspent by about £5, which means I've spent £5 over my old weekly budget - and it felt really roomy and not at all restrictive :T Am very impressed.
Mind you, it's my new job's departmental night out on Tuesday, and I have no idea what that involves...
Ah well, back to the old PhD...0 -

Good news about the van and the budget.
I am a dreadful procrastinator and could not imagine having the discipline to complete a Phd - keep on slogging away at it.

Good news on the van.
I don't often put a bid in until the auction is coming to an end and I'm sure that maybe some people have put bids on those sniper website things that put a sneaky last second bid on for you???
At least you have a bid that will kick things off.
And well done for keeping to your budget.
I'm due to complete on my new flat and as a result will have to keep to a super strict budget so shall be looking to you for tips!!!:TI've got my own flat :j:j
Now I have to pay the bills

Thanks folk
makeup, not sure I'd look to me for budgetting tips - only seemed to have saved something this week cost I increased budget a tiny bit after I started my new job! :rotfl: But I'm sure we can all learn something from each other! Very exciting about your new flat, is it close to your old one? Is this the flat in your signature?
sparklymessygirl - I'm still not sure I have the discipline to complete PhD :rotfl: mind you, I did already finish it once! so it should theoretically be easier the second time round, right?? :rotfl: Good tea quote too
Just going to do 10 minutes of planning, then abandoning writing for this evening. I've done loads today - 6.5 hours of solid work (like setting the timer for 15 minutes, and if I've got sidetracked starting again and not counting it). Doesn't include meals, or talking to Mr Daffs, or anything. That's probably more than I've done in the last few weeks put together! Planned to finish this section today, but I've got to get on the train to work at 7 in the morning, so I think it's time to have a bit of a wind down before bed, and I'll just have to do an hour or two tomorrow night...
(or laptop on the train?? can I be bothered carrying it on my bike?? But if I do, that's 2 hours of train work time and I can have the evening free!) - that's what I'll do - hooray! :j:j
Thanks for inspiring that idea you lot! :A0 -
Err, I think your bright idea was all your own but enjoy looking all serious and super hard working on the train tomorrow!
My new flat is most exciting cos at the moment I rent a room in a shared flat and my new flat has two whole bedrooms to myself and I'm buying (well kind of buying - one of those part rent part buy things).
It is very close to my current flat, ridiculously so, my new flat is probably a 3 min walk away. So everything stays the same, even the same bus stop :j:jI've got my own flat :j:j
Now I have to pay the bills

Cheery, that sounds great all round, good for you, and I'm so glad you've got a bidder. I've no idea about the wording for a van, but definitely to have the van in the title, yes!
Makeup - that sounds great about the flat! I think the thing I'd advise, which you probably already know and is ridiculously simple - if its just you in a two bed flat, probably wise to get a water meter fitted - I've gone on about this ad infinitum, but when I did it, it saved me £35 a month, and I have a credit balance still with the water company.2023: the year I get to buy a car0
