OMG - i was really down recently having spent the last 9 months with OH trying to get pregnant. Have lost 3 stone to help, and now after reading this really not sure i want to have kids at all??? And i thought it was all hazy happy stuff when the stork visited with a nice clean smiling baby!!!!!!!
:-)What's he building in there???
Debt at highest £30,450 (Dec 05)
Debt at lowest £9, 113 (Jul 07)
How much did we over spend whilst on maternity leave :mad:0 -
That I discovered you could tear so much that after they stitched you up they had to insert an instument up your bottom  to look see in case they stitched too much. oooooooooooh it hurt so much. I don't know how gay guys cope.Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0

Had an epidural with both pregnancies, and each time after it was started i was sick. All was ok with DS, but with DD they decided i needed a catheter (sp) (not sure why, mind you, all the pain i was in, didnt notice it being put in!!!) So there i was, legs akimbo, felt the need to be sick, handed the sick bowl, and as i vomited the catheter shot out and hit the wall oposite!!!! The midwife had to go and change into scrubs
!!!!!
Also, the epidurals dont always work (they dont tell you that either!!!) With DS they missed the epidural space, so i had to lie flat for 2 days (mind you, missed all those tarey nappies as i couldnt get up to change them!!!) and then with DD the pain relief went down my left leg, so had all the pain, but couldnt move, due to the leg. Whenever they needed to examine me, and when DD was being born, they needed one midwife to deliver and one to hold my leg!!!!!
Sneezing im ok with now, unless i dont know its coming  !!!!0 -
Okay, here's my pregnancy list:
The constant feeling that you're going to throw up - even when you just have.
leukorrhea
Waking your husband up in the middle of the night demanding sex. (Just me?!)
And my labour list:
The gas and air might make you giggle uncontrollably and wet the bed. (Just me?!)
It might last for days on end.
An epidural might only work on your feet.
Afterwards:
The lemon sized clots that plopped to the floor the first time I walked.
The roaring sound in my head that went on for days afterwards (the drugs/the gas and air?)
That you might be feeding your baby naked under the covers when a friend comes in. And your exhausted, slightly delerious husband might throw the covers back and announce 'there's the baby! diplaying your enormous deflating whale of a body for all to see!
Just how much it was all going to be worth it!May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
If you're being induced you'll be put on a ward surrounded by women who've already given birth and while you're getting well into labour and hiding in your cubicle trying not to make any groaning, whimpering sounds etc people will be sitting round the next bed laughing and joking etc.
And when - through gritted teeth - you say that you're in a lot of pain (or words to that effect) - the midwife may fetch you a couple of paracetamol.
Finally when you are literally unable to speak because the pain is so bad, the midwife will say she's just off for her break but will come back to see how you're doing in an hour.
Once you're finally allowed to go to the delivery room people do start to take you a bit more seriously though, and it's less frightening.
Couldn't believe how bad the after-pains were after my second.
Oh yes, nearly forgot...maternity wards are UNBELIEVABLY hot!!! I just wanted to take all my clothes off to keep cool (though obviously with the state that your body's in it wouldn't be pleasant for anyone).
Having said all that I'm now expecting no. 3 so I guess there must be some good bits!!!:)0 -
The face that you may not actually like your baby the moment you see it is never mentioned. When I saw DD1 I clearly remember thinking "what am I supposed to do with that" It was 2am DH was sent home and I was left literally holding a crying baby all night whilst the midwives sat around chatting.
It did get better very quickly but the memory is very vivid.0 -
Oh the memories - DD1 was born in Germany in a German hospital so I was trying to translate whilst pushing - not an easy thing to do. DD2 was born over here - so much easier. Gas and air made me sick so managed without anything. After pains though were horendous - reading all the threads has just brought everything to the front of my mind and I definitely won't be doing it again!!!!!!!Murphy's No More Pies Club Member No. 680

When I had DS1 finished labour had a nice cup of coffee (couldn't drink it while preg) anyway told to have nice warm bath that they had run for me. I went got in and this huge clot came away, I rang for midwive as I thought something must be wrong to be told 'it's normal'. When I had DD new years day this year again went and had a bath but the lady had put baby bath in it (with my ezcema flaring badly in preg) it was the quickest bath ever even hubby couldn't believe how quick I was until I explained why.
With DS2 I had cs and had catheter and drain put in. Didn't think it would be bad as 2 other women I had been in with had had the same. Catheter came out finehurt a little and was told drain would be the same (20mins and a huge amount of gas and air) it came out. This thread has made me laugh but the first poo is definetley true I hated the thought of it all 3 times.:smileyhea:heart: Mrs Lea Nov 5th '11:smileyhea

warning-this post may offend or embarass some mild mannered types who have never gone through childbirth
that heartburn can still continue a few days after the birth
that babies are NOISY sleepers..they snuffle, snort and fart!!lol
after pains, even after the first one, and the pain of internal organs falling back down to where they used to be before the baby shoved them up under your ribs.
having boobs so big the midwife makes you a bra from a sheet, then you cut the cups out of an old bra and fill it in with tee shirt material because Mothercare bras only go up to 38G!!and you have two footballs sitting like rocks on your front.DH thinks it's great your boobs are bigger than Jordan's then remembers he's not getting any of that for at least six weeks. Even when you do get round to it you keep your bra on or you'll leak all over the bed.
sleeping with your bra and pantson, on top of a bath towel in case you leak from any end.
stitches get tighter as the wound heals, and your midwife will want to check them, even though you are bleeding:eek:
going into hospital to have the episiotomy scar re-done because it's still 'not right' down there.
wrinkly bits down there that used to be smooth:o
piles don't always go away after delivery.:o
but....it is all worth it, and I'd do it all again tomorrow for my wonderful darling dd.:jMember of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

Oh my god this post is the best contraception you'll ever find! When I want kids I think I'll just adopt!
Seriously though, these things should be talked about more - can't imagine how scared I would be if I found clots or was bleeding for days and didn't know it was normal. Well done girls :T0
