Don't worry, my second was born with the help of two paracetamols on my sofa at home with my OH assisting the midwife.

I woke up at 3.00 am with period type pains and had him at 10.00 am.

I had gas and air available but kept thinking I will save it until I need it but I never did.

Just remember for every horror story there will be hundreds of wonderful birth experiences.

    Sarah,

You will be fine I promise. Don't be afraid - I'd have it for you if I could.
    It is just banter.

Best wishes (I am sure from all of of on this thread)

so true!! I had a complicated birth (long labour, didn't dilate, unable to deliver, baby (and me!) in distress, emergency C-section, huge blood loss etc) only three weeks ago. I'm still in pain (only a little!), and yet I would do it all again tomorrow as its an amazing experience. Don't be scared - you'll not believe it until you've done it yourself (I know I didn't) but its true that it all fades away once you hold baby in your arms. And then you can join the club and start scaring other women with your stories!

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Best thread I've read in ages :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

    Other secrets...

    Pregnancy

The smell of cooking makes you sick (hubby had to do it all;) )

    Morning/afternoon/evening/night sickness lassting 6 months

Cant eat dippy egg because of some kind of bacteria for 9 months:mad:

You crave chewing plastic bags (was that just me? ... I went plastic bag mad on my 2 pregnancies, the old Asda thick ones being the best ... I could get through chewing tons in one night:rotfl: )

    Birth

Having epidural and not being able to move whilst hubby laughs and dances in front of you (yes he did!)

Having students come in and midwife asking if it ok they watch whilst legs in stirrups and screaming 'You can let the whole of Manchester watch for all I care, just get it OUT!

Hubby wiping brow with soggy hankie (seen it on tele) whilst your pushing and he's telling you to breathe, midwife teling you to push, breathe... push... breathe... push... I AM I AM STOP F***ING MITHERING ME:mad:

    And lastly, the stitches OWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!

    Postnatal

Finding out that the hopsital stitched you up wrong and have to be re-done.

Hubby finding it really funny telling everyone I needed to have my 'clit-stitched' ... it still cracks him up now! (Soon wiped the smile off his face when I told him NO SEX:rotfl: )

But it was worth it all in the end :j

Until I'd read the post above I'd completely forgotten that with my second child (nearly 22yrs ago), in a lovely old fashioned style cottage hospital, they asked if I would mind a work experience student watching the birth (at the convenient time of 10:30 am.

I remember watching her face (she could see more than me I guess!), bless her she was very young. I have no idea who she was but often wonder if she remembers the occasion! I hope it was a good contraceptive lesson for her because I wasn't exemplary in my language!
Do not allow the risk of failure to stop you trying!

I'd forgotten that when my second was born (he came out very quickly once they burst the 'bag') I had forgotten to remove my piercings and as he came out the student midwife said "oh look it's already got earrings" (coz she could only see his head at the time) then as she looked again... she blushed and looked well embarrassed.
HWTHMBO still tells the story to anyone who listens and I guess it is funny looking back.
just in case you need to know:
HWTHMBO - He Who Thinks He Must Be Obeyed (gained a promotion, we got Civil Partnered Thank you Steinfeld and Keidan)
    DS#1 - my twenty-five-year old son

Sarah if you are still reading, you can now relax. If some of us can get pierced down there, then stitches and episotomies are nothing to concern yourself over.
